Welcome to the new look Liverpool and South West Lancashire Family History website. As you can tell we've been busy making sure the information you require is now easier to find.
With the numerous T.V. programmes encouraging people to investigate their ancestors, genealogy is becoming more and more widespread. The invention of the internet means you no longer have to visit places far and wide to view records that have until recently been kept in local, national and international archives. Whilst encouraging people to take up this fascinating hobby, the T.V. programmes usually entice the viewer to try their hand, but don't show the amount of research that goes into following just one line of a family.
When people hit their 'brick wall' many are frustrated as to where to go next. Without employing an expert genealogist, knowing where to look next can be a bit hit and miss. One of the tips advertised in many of the modern magazines is to join a local family history society, as the wealth of knowledge both local and beyond is often priceless. Many different people from all walks of life coming togeather for one common goal - to find out once and for all Who We Are.
The Liverpool and South West Lancashire Family History Society consists of several groups that usually meet at least once a month. Most times we have a guest speaker who will explain further a certain aspect of this fascinating hobby. Topics have included:
New members are always welcome and we always have a cup of tea or coffee with chocolate biscuits afterwards.
If you're stuck with a bit of research you can draw on the many years of experience our members have of genealogy. We're a friendly bunch and will always make you feel welcome.
We also have a new Facebook page that we expect to grow more and more active.
