1891 LIVERPOOL CENSUS

The Society is grateful to Barry O’Shea, #1681, one of our Australian Members, who has transcribed and indexed the following Piece No’s from the 1891 Liverpool Census:

RG12/2981 – Disrticts of Kirkby, Cottage Homes in Fazackerly, Walton Workhouse, Walton Prison, Belmont Road Workhouse/Test House & Home for the Aged Poor - Belmont Grove - Anfield.

RG12/2982 – Districts of Waterloo & Blundell Sands.

RG12/2984 – Districts of Aintree, Ford, Litherland, Lunt, Orrell, Netherton & Sefton.



Notes for Users of the Indexes:

The Field Headings are:

Surname, Forename, Age, District & Folio Page.

Folio Page Numbers:

The numbered right hand pages have been allocated the suffix letter “a” whilst pages without numbers have been allocated the suffix letter “b”. There are some cases of pages being numbered with the suffix letter “A” on the films. In this case a second suffix “a” or “b” has been added, to maintain continuity.

Characters:

The character “?” has been used as follows:

“?” on its own = There is some information on the film but it cannot be deciphered.

“?” within a word = One or more letters or numbers that cannot be deciphered.

“?” after a word & preceded by a space = There is a degree of uncertainty about the entry.

“?” immediately following a single Capital Letter = Only the first letter of a word can be deciphered.

Single letter Forenames, those common to both sexes or with no other indication of the person’s sex, have been tagged with (male) or (female), based on the entry in the age column.

“-“ = There is no information under this heading on the film.
