I've really only been able here to use the findmypast site which has newspapers and also the British Newspaper Archive. I've put in keywords of various sorts plus his name but nothing useful has turned up so far. I shall just have to wait....

John Nelson Thorpe
I have his birth and baptism, entry in the 1901 census, his FWW record, from FreeBMD his marriage in 1920. He had at least one child, and I know his date of death from a family bible - Jan.20, 1924. Family rumour has him as working for the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board as a diver. I quote from a co...

Re: Walton Eistedffod?
Thank you for a quick reply Barbara. I had found the account of the 1929 attempt but as it says it never happened again it still left me wondering what musical festival there was in the 1930s which provoded my relative with medallions. I know she played both piano and violin.

Walton Eistedffod?
I have inherited several medals in boxes, two of which have LIVERPOOL COMPETITIVE MUSICAL FESTIVAL, inscribed in gold lettering on the outer lid of the boxes. They belonged to a first cousin once removed who died some ten years ago. I know she was a keen musician. One medal has a harp in the middle a...

Re: Sarah A Roberts+John Hodgson
Thanks Amanda. I take it that it is the marriage registers which are not available - I've managed to get the birth registers for all six children between 1866 and 1877, all baptised at St. Peter.

Long time since I posted. A small puzzle re above marriage. Family Search and Lancs BMD both have it as Nov. 7, 1869 at St. Peter, Liverpool. My wife and I have Ancestry but cannot find the marriage details. Is it because there are gaps in the registers? I even have (sofar) one of their children's b...

Re: Cuba Missile Crisis Oct/ Nov 1962
Thanks for that. I think it would have taken longer than the 16thOct for the CND or Students' Union or whoever to get a demo organised. It was not spontaneous. The crisis lasted a fortnight from the 15th when people more politically aware than I was would have started to get seriously worried. I ima...

Cuba Missile Crisis Oct/ Nov 1962
I marched down Church Street in autumn 1962 with hundreds of other terrified people, under banners saying "No War over Cuba." My diary for the year was so occupied with my love life that I did not record my first ever political action where I may have had my name taken! Can anyone remember when it w...

Re: John Perry?Parry?
First off - apologies for not seeming to be interested - only just back since last Sunday. Second off merci a Tina for the bump Third and especially Grey for being so thorough and putting me to shame. Can't do anything till tomorrow but will pore over the info (and paw lovingly over it too) and see ...

I've had to abandon family history for some months but I'm trying to fit it in again. Help! My g.g.grandfather who married at least four times, is exercising my brain especially as regards his parents..... He marries Anne Simmons May 16th 1857 at St. Albans Church, parish of Bevington. Witnesses are...

Don't know if this off or on topic - I'm sure Mary will put it in the right place. Just been browsing and came across the above site. Amongst many other things it has a Texts section where one can put in queries. As I have Shropshire ancestors I entered Shropshire parish registers. There are over fi...
