Bertieone I’ve checked out the link it gave me some insight into military service. Retiringtype I believe you are right grade 3 probably made my dad exempt from national service probably the reason he never mentioned it.

Hi Mary, Thanks for your reply. The records I’m looking for are not the war records but the National Service records I believe all eighteen year olds had to register for this service were they spent a couple of years in the army etc. My dad was born in 1931 so he would have been eighteen in 1949. Hi Everyone, I’ve family buried at St Mary’s Hale. If I’m not mistaken the original registers were destroyed by fire in the 1970s. When I researched my family at Hale I used the Bishops Transcripts held on microfilm at Huyton Library. The earlier ones are in poor condition. Hope this is of some help...
