Re: Hazeldine/Hasleden

Give the library a ring - the staff are very helpful, and would know where the records are kept.

They may be kept at the Cheshire Archives (?) but as I say the staff at the library will help.

Hope this helps.

The Hitlers of Liverpool

Adolf Hitler resided for a while in Liverpool, and was despised by his sister in law who described him as a lazy layabout! A bit of a funny book, written by Adolf's sister in law many years after the events, but fascinating non the less. Murder (of Adolph's niece - whom he is reported to have had in...

Owney Madden

Born in Leeds, schooled in Wigan, raised in Liverpool, Duke of the West Side. An old book, but a very fascinating biography of one of America's least known (the way he liked it) gentleman gangsters. It gives a fascinating insight into his life, from his early days as leader of the Gophers, to his ve...

Basil Desmond Longworth Royal Engineers (WW2)

I'm looking for any information on the above soldier (my grandfather). I know he served in North Africa, Italy, and Monte Casino. I am led to believe he started in bomb disposal but changed 'profession' when one of his closest friends was blown up in front of him. He was from St. Helens if that help...

Re: WARRINGTON - Last nights meeting (Free Software)

If we continue a discussion about software I'll separate it from the important bit at the top afterwards. At a meeting recently the LDS software was mentioned - as in the 1881 census on disk and the British Isles Vital Records Index (BIVRI) which has proved so useful in the past. The programme to r...

Re: WARRINGTON - Last nights meeting (Free Software)

Just a thought - do we know which OS these programmes are compatible with? I know OpenOffice has been around for a long time, good as it is, has it been updated to run with Windows 7? As far as I know, most will work on ALL windows, Linux, and MAC - though obviously you will know more when you go t...

Re: Google Bot

Google bot is Google's way of indexing the world wide web. The world wide web as we know is just a collection of separate pages with no order whatsoever, Google (and Yahoo et al) use bot's to index the internet to provide us all with the pages we want when we search. This was originally done by hand...
