Re: Private James Bradley/Ottowell Hugh Claude Bradley
I would say they are one and the same - If it had been changed on enlistment I would have suggested Ottowell - shortened to Otto?- sounds a bit German but as you've shown he changed it before that... who knows, maybe he just didn't like having an unusual name!

Re: Frank Young
Hi Luxor, You've got a bit of a tangle to sort out there - the medal roll and index card entries you have listed are all for different men. Your Frank Young who died 29/10/1916 and is buried in Wimereux cemetery only served in the K.R.R.C. The 1914 enlistment was in the Territorial Force, probably h...

Re: Sergeant John Locke ??
As the medal card, roll and soldier's effects all show he was a Sergeant, and the headstone says Sergeant, I'll get in touch with the CWGC and ask them to change his rank on their database, which has him as a private. Interesting that the soldiers' effects notes he died of influenza 'on demobilizati...

Re: Sergeant John Locke ??
Great stuff!
I guess it needed fresh eyes to spot my mistakes (assuming his name was Locke and misreading McClenahan as McGlenahan)
maybe it's time for me to take a break from the keyboard!
Thanks Bertie

Sergeant John Locke ??
Hi all, bit of a mystery man here that I'm hoping you can help me identify, the pictures are of a grave marker in Allerton Cemetery, the inscription reads "In memory of John, the dearly loved husband of Lily McGlenahan (Sergt 4th "Pals") who died Feb 16th 1919, aged 27 years. "His duty nobly done." ...

His parents lived at 21 Houlton St, Liverpool for the 1901 and 1911 census but not William. His mother was born in Jersey. I've located William C Foster in the 1901 census, age 5 born Liverpool a visitor at the house of Daniel E Chevalier in Jersey. He would appear to be living with his maternal gra...

Re: List of names from the Memorial
I have updated the list above so that the names which need identifying are shown in red with a link to their thread. If you spot any I've missed please let me know. The other names still need some work and I will continue the colour-coding (when I get time) to show which names are 'complete' and whi...

The sister's WRNS record shows that she intended to leave for NZ immediately after her marriage but of course doesn't record if that happened because she resigned to get married. Her residence before the war was given as 199 Edge Lane with her parents. The UK Medical Register for 1919 shows that her...

I've only had a quick look at his records but it seems he enlisted as Kent, deserted and re-enlisted under the false name Wilson, his statement on the matter said that he was keen to get to the fr...

Re: Private John Rogers/John Henry Parker
My thinking is, wouldn't John Henry Parker's parents or wife insisted his correct name was included? The soldier's effects records that his money was paid to his widow "Mrs Bertha Rogers" so I think it's likely that they were living under that name and it would have been used on the memorial. Amanda

Re: J Rogers - information not yet known
Some background to the wife - Bertha Smith married her first husband John Alexander Munt in 1894 in St Cyprians. In 1904 John Munt sailed for Demerara, saying he would send for his wife and children but he didn't and she, without any means of support, had to go into Brownlow Workhouse for the birth ...

Its good to see there is still progress being made on this long-running project. Is there any chance of a summary showing those still untraced? It would help those of us who get an idle moment for a bit more digging. [By the way, Amanda, well done with your two latest findings on the St James memor...
