Re: Grimes/Crimes

You really are the best Bertie :D Using a tip Mary gave me on Facebook about RC marriages and just using surnames I have just found the marriage of Charles and Margaret. Holy Cross church 21st August 1896 Carolus Grimes parents Martin and Maria (Mary I think) to Margaretum Ryder parents Michaelis an...

Re: Grimes/Crimes

Hi Bertie Thank you for giving me even more to ponder lol!! What an amazing coincidence if it's a different family from 1891 onwards in the same road with mother Bridget and daughter Margaret!! I couldn't find a birth entry for Margaret in England. The baptism is in Find My Past, Carolus Grimes, no ...

Re: Grimes/Crimes

Hi Bertie Knutsford Road in Grappenhall is the same road though I can't see any street numbers Grappenhall has a very small population, Bridget and Margaret are roughly the right age. Michael Ryder is a bit of an anomaly though there is a Michael Drider in the previous census as a 4 year old farm la...

Hello to all, I'm back again with other eyes needed yet again. If you guys can't work it out then nobody can!! In 1851 we have Charles Grimes and his wife Martha living in Whitby, Ellesmere Port with their 7 children. Another 4 children came later. By February 1861 both Charles and Martha have died ...

Re: Second or any opinions on Charles Grimes

Am I correct in saying he was only called James on 2 documents? Martha's death cert, registered by the Undertakers wife and probably his assistant. No way of knowing where she gathered the information, very open to mistakes, especially if Charles was fighting his own battles with his health. Son Ja...

Re: Second or any opinions on Charles Grimes

Dorothy Griffith was an Undertakers wife, so probably done the honours because no one else was available. How many children married using James as father and Charles as father, can you list please Barbara. Liverpool Mercury, November 20, 1860. https://i.imgur.com/k6KuDUb.jpg This man could be known...

Re: Second or any opinions on Charles Grimes

Looking to see if there's anything in the Workhouse Registers and found the Burial Register for St Martin in the Field with both Martha and Charles listed. Oh No, I think they have reused the register and the burial has taken place in Walton, see top of page. https://i.imgur.com/PMs9ZAh.jpg Yes Mar...

Second or any opinions on Charles Grimes

Please 👀. Charles Grimes b. 1819 and wife Martha b.1818 are on the 1851 census in Whitby, Eastham, Cheshire (Ref: H.O. 107/2173) with their 6 children. All children were baptised as being the son or daughter of Charles and Martha Grimes. They have 2 children born and baptised in Liverpool, Daniel 18...

Re: James Grimes

The two marriages are definitely connected and my view is the Father James has been recorded incorrectly or for reasons we'll never know. My best bet, an error made. Not conclusive by any means, the children's names, first marriage, follow that pattern of, parents, grandparents and siblings. Thanks...

The children do tally and Sarah Grimes, 1898, mmn, Wainwright fits.

Mistake recording the fathers name seems favourable.

Also, son, William Orange Grimes, can't be too many of them.
Posted same time
Yes very Orange Lodge, King Billy and all that 👀

Don't look the same hand?
I did look at the handwriting Bertie but put it down to the intervening years. It's a blooming mystery.

Maybe I should scrap the whole family and look for him either dying or emigrating.

James Grimes

This is the brother of Mary Grimes from my previous post and one of the 3 children placed in the Workhouse in 1861 after the death of their parents. I found a marriage for James to Ann Wainwright in 1896, he a widower, age more or less right, his father Charles (deceased) labourer. Great!! In the 19...

Re: Anfield Crematorium Records

Good Afternoon All I have just been looking on Ancestry and found records for Anfield Crematorium. My Mum was cremated there in 1956 so was pleased to find a record of the event. However I was horrified to find the entry was wrong. In the column headed Name, Occupation and Age was written Retired E...

Re: Whatever happened to Mary Grimes?

Unfortunately the burial address, 7 Mozart St is uninhabited, 1881 census and doesn't show in Electoral Rolls or the 1881 directory to discover who she may have lived with and her status. Perhaps when peacetime returns you may be fortunate to find who lived there in 1882 in the records office. Deat...

Re: Whatever happened to Mary Grimes?

Can't be of any help about your Mary, ecept to say that the catholic church latinise the names. Mary would become Maria. My mum and all her family going back 3 generations lived in Gascoyne Street. My mum's grand mother kept the shop there until she died in 1935. All there cousins , in laws and eve...

Whatever happened to Mary Grimes?

Good afternoon, I'm back again with another puzzle, hoping you are all well. Here we go: Charles and Martha Grimes, my 3 x great grandparents are living on the Wirral until they move to Liverpool some time between 1851 when they lived in Whitby, Cheshire until 1861 where they are in a court dwelling...
