Re: Canadian Expeditianry Force
An interesting question. Somewhere on the web is a list of members of the Drumgooland Presbyterian Church in County Down, (now Northern) Ireland, who served in WW1. From memory, one fought with the British Army while maybe half a dozen had recently emigrated and fought with the Canadians. The local ...

Re: Private George Highton 4317 1/9 btn. B.com.Kings L'Pool reg.
Each hospital kept a War Diary, just like each regiment. The regiment War Diaries refer to junior men simply as 'other ranks', but the hospital Diaries use names. I found several references to my ggf in the Diary of the Wimereux Hospital. He died there, so we knew the location from letters received....

Re: CONWAY / KINSELLA
Some Irish Roman Catholic parishes used Latin for registration. You may want to search the various Latin versions of Julia and Denis. As an example; here 'Dionisius' is used for Denis in Carlow in 1866: https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?_phsrc=qzs691&_phstart=successSource&usePUBJs=true&...

Re: CONWAY / KINSELLA
Civil registration of births in Ireland began in 1864. Julia Kinsella may have been born just before then. You may be able to identify Kinsella children born just after 1864 with father 'Denis'; then check the appropriate Catholic Church baptism registers for a Julia. For example; these children wer...

Re: Civil Marriage
I haven't absorbed all this, but a few thoughts: 1. Didn't civil registration - of all non-R.C. marriages - only start about 1845? R.C. marriage registration started in 1864? Did the authorities say that there was no civil registration? That would make sense if he married before 1845. They would adv...

There's nothing obvious on irishgenealogy. You would expect to find the marriage registration there if it happened in Ireland. It might be worth checking the Scotland's People site.

This speculation 'I think you are right about Lewis not marrying the mother of the children, as there appear to be 2 birth registrations in 1938; one with surname Rymer and one with Gaylor. The same occurs for a different birth in 1939 of which I'm sure you're aware.' http://www.rootschat.com/forum/...

Re: Surname variants - RYMER
At the first marriage he was Lewis Robert Rymer, address St. Marylebone. He gave his father's name as Francis Rymer, a soldier. Louise/Louisa Francis Rymer lived all her life in Brixton, close to St. Marylebone. She was a young woman in the early 1900s. At the time of her death in 1943 she was livin...

He was still a waiter, living in Edinburgh, by 12 July 1945. The British Newspaper Archive has a story from The Berwick Advertiser reporting that he was charged with a 'breach of the peace'. The published introduction stops short of telling who occupied the house where the trouble occurred.

Re: Liverpool to Denmark - Margaret, James and children?
It's not very obvious, but the Irish Census has a 'More Search Options' link. Selecting Religion: 'Roman Catholic' throws up 268 RC Mellons in Ireland in 1901. Use of the County field shows that the great majority of these lived in Londonderry or Tyrone. Some lived in Draperstown, Co. Londonderry. M...

Re: Liverpool to Denmark - Margaret, James and children?
It's not easy. You'll probably not find an expert, since your case of Danish database DOB, but no origin, is unique. I'd be wary of the DOB and maybe of the name 'Margaret'. Roman Catholic children got names added in later years. For example; she could have been baptised Mary and became Mary Margare...

There were/are lots of Lindsays in Ireland. The 1901 census shows approx. 1600; half of them in Counties Antrim and Down. Unfortunately birth registration only became compulsory in Ireland in 1864.

Presumably they were Roman Catholic. Marriage of William Ross Warden and Margaret King
I was looking for this marriage in Ireland but familysearch shows it in Lancashire. I need to confirm that the groom was a widower. I've looked for it on Ancestry, but no joy. I'm hoping someone with expertise in Lancashire records may have better luck. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2D...
