Re: St. Michael's Council School

The school is still here 😄 . They just knocked down the building in 1996 and a newer building was put in its place. They might still have some archives in the school and they might also be interested in showing your photos to the pupils.

Re: St Michael's for LukeJ

Thanks Mary I remember seeing the evacuees picture.
I don't remember the building on the right (7 Neilson Rd it would be) but it could have been where our head teacher was based.

I thought the guy in the bottom picture was Elvis! Ha.

Re: Anfield Cemetery

Yes Mary feel free to share it. Thanks. I just assumed there would always be some kind of stone or cross there to mark the plot. ...and once in a while someone takes away the stones if they are damaged or neglected for years? There are a lot of green patches so its hard to pinpoint the exact graves!...

Re: Anfield Cemetery

So I cycled there today. Freezing cold. I had 10 of my ancestors and just 2 of 10 have a headstone. The other 8 just mounds of grass and mud! One is a stone of my g. grandparents and a g. aunt who i hadn't traced before. With personal messages which is nice as I don't know anything of these people. ...

Re: St. Michael's Council School

I went to St. Michaels. The summer I left the old school building was unfortunately demolished. (Buckets collecting leaking water everywhere ha.) There was a swimming pool in the basement which was really cool. I've seen some old pictures online of children there being evacuated during the Blitz, If...

I'm going to be a weirdo and take pictures of graves.
Normal to all of us obviously but not something Many people I know wouldn't get. 😂

Anfield Cemetery

Hello all Happy new year Just wondering about anfield cemetery. I've checked the records and 3 of my ancestors were buried there. I have the section numbers and graves. From 1869, 1910 & 1937. Are these graves likely to still be standing? Its highly unlikely they would be maintained by any one. Chee...

Re: Thomas Coghlan, 1780-1861

thanks for all your work. That clears up why it come to be there. The stone goes right down into the ground next to the big tree which was probably gone up after the stone was moved there. I haven't found any family trees on ancestry to link to a direct ancestor but maybe one day someone will come a...

Ricky Tomlinson WDYTYA

Its probably an old repeat you've all seen.. but I saw Who do you think you are with Ricky Tomlinson yesterday on bbc It was really interesting as it was all in Liverpool and went through each generation, back to the early 1800s, showing old footage, pictures and a good insight into life. Explained ...

Re: Giving the wrong age - Bridget Doyle

i KNEW it, cant be 100% but someone who is a distant DNA match has a tree with the same family.
I'll never know why she lied about her age i can only guess she thought being younger gave her some advantage.
That was really bugging me. 8) 8) 8)

Re: WW1 lookup request

Thanks Bertieone and Katie, I've looked through them all and I don't think any of those is a match. The next of kin would have probably been a Bridget Jones of Shakespeare st, Everton and religion probably church of england. But thanks so much for looking through. I will try and get a regiment numbe...

WW1 lookup request

Hi I believe 224k ww1 records have been added online. I was wondering if anyone who had access to these could help me look up a record which could be my grandfather? (It will be awhile till I can use a library) I know he was wounded in battle and needed a relative to get sent home, before being sent...

I'm relatively new to the forum but already I've been helped loads, a lot more than on facebook,.etc. where sometimes the posts just get missed or ignored. I always get good replies here. The best thing is that the posts stay around, In 10 years someone else researching my family history might stumb...

Widow

I've got a g x 5 grandmother who is a widow.
Called Margaret Young.
Would this be her late husband's surname or her
Maiden name?

If its her late husband's name I can try to look for the previous marriage to ascertain her maiden name etc.

Cheers in advance

Re: Lark Lane, Toxteth, 1891 or 1901

Cheers, this is my turf so i've been interested to know some of the history, As expected, lots of Merchants, Brokers, Ship Owners, and Living on own Means! This must have been a wealthy area at the time. I've noticed The houses weren't overcrowded whereas some areas of liverpool, there'd be 10 peopl...
