thank you for this information. I am doing the research on behalf of my son-in-laws mother. she thought she was pure Northern Irish till I turned up this wee gem!

thanks also noticed his wife Ann Hand died in workhouse in 1840 - are there records that far back?

thank you but now have another question - could not make out the writing/meaning of what looks like Died in street wd. (same place as he was admitted). Was th workhouse also a hospital?

Are there any records available on folks who worked with title of Dock Gateman>
I would be interested to find anything about this job etc - name relevant would be Arthur Alexander Hand who appears to have been in that job from 1880s to death in 1906.

I have found the death of Richard Hand,schoolmaster, age 54 (bronchitis) and his place of death is the Workhouse. His wife also is listed as being there in 1840. Richard was on the 1851 census as living with his brother William therefore he must have went into the workhouse after that. Is there any ...
