Re: Full Baptisms
Many thanks for your replies. While looking for my ancestor I came across another possible match - a John Maycock who was baptised in 1802 in Whitnash, about 10 miles from Dunchurch. Going through the Dunchurch records, the vicar there makes no mention of full baptisms, a child being "received" or p...

Re: Full Baptisms
Hi I'm struggling to get a definitive answer to this query and am wondering if it was a local "thing". You can see the record for my relative, John Maycock, in the Whitnash parish register in 1802. There are a number of similar Full baptism records on this page but I cannot see a corresponding buria...

Full Baptisms
I have come across a family member's baptism record in the Whitnash CofE church in 1801/2. The first part of the record says that the baby was baptised on November 22nd 1801, but later it was added that he received a full baptism in June 1802. This isn't the only child in these church records who ha...

Assistance with brick walls
Hi
In the absence of the weekly Help Desks, are we allowed to post questions about specific aspects of our family history where we have reached a brick wall? I used to regularly go over to the Liverpool central library and get some amazing help from the volunteers there.

Marriage Condition
My great-great grandmother was widowed around 1880 and subsequently re-married. If I have the correct marriage certificate, her Condition is recorded as Spinster and not Widow. Did people record their Conditions incorrectly for some reason back in the day?
Thank you
Thank you

Re: Military Records
How on earth do you find these records? I am really impressed with everybody's skills and knowledge.
It could be then that John Barton's mum Alice eventually married Peter Crank, maybe for appearance sake, having had at least two illegitimate children.
Thank you again.

Re: Military Records
Thank you all for the information you have posted, particularly the reference to the 29th Regiment postings. That clarifies why Henrietta Stewart later recorded that she was born in Mauritius. Is this the place to post a supplementary question? If not, let me know and I will post it elsewhere. On th...

Military Records
I believe that my 3x great grandfather may have been a Sergeant Major in what was known as the 29th Regiment. As far as I can ascertain, this is now the Worcestershire and Mercian Regiment. On his daughters marriage certificate (1847), these are his details - Robert Stewart, late Sergeant Major intt...

Re: Deciphering writing in a census
Many thanks for all the comments and apologies for the 1861/1871 typo. Particular thanks for confirmation that it is Wolfe Street and the details about my great great grandmothers nefarious activities :D That was a surprise to say the least. A quick follow up = where do I find newspaper records? Are...

Deciphering writing in a census
Hi Can anyone suggestion how best to get a street name deciphered? I have an 1871 census for an area in Toxteth and can see my forebears in the record but cannot make out the street name. It looks like Wooly Street but I have searched all over the Net and can only find a Wolfe street and a Wood Stre...

Coroners Reports
Good morning I hope everyone is keeping well. I am transcribing a coroners report from the Pontefract area in 1870 and have come across what looks like an abbreviation. It seems to read sw and occurs after a new person's name and before their testimony is recorded. I am guessing it means something l...

districts of birth
Good afternoon
I hope everyone is safe and well.
Is there a database online where I can look up a place of birth to find out the District of registration. My particular interest is the village of Hampton Lucy
Thank you

Re: Workhouse Records
Many thanks for all the replies. I Googled 43rd Elizabeth and found that it refers to the 43rd year of the reign of Elizabeth (1601) when the law was passed. I don't have access at home to FindmyPast, where these workhouse records are located, so I will do a bit more digging around the records regar...

Workhouse Records
I have found records of a relative who was admitted to the Liverpool Workhouse (Brownlow Hill) in 1877 and have been trying to read the headings of the various columns in the register. There are two I am struggling with - 1. under the columns for numbers of Men, Boys, Women and Girls there is a head...

Re: Searching foe a birth record
I went to the Help Desk in Liverpool Central Library on Tuesday and they helped to find the record that seems to be the one I was looking for. In the Register for Huyton there is a record of the birth and baptism dates for William, son of William and Margaret Smith. I am surmising that the church wa...

Re: Searching foe a birth record
I have checked Huyton and Childwall and there don't appear to be any baptism records from around 1775 that have been transcribed to the online parish records. Have I looked in the wrong place?
