The online newspapers [via Findmypast etc] include 'The Era' a theatrical newspaper published between 1837 and 1939. I do not know if the whole period is available online but it can be a useful source.

The British Newspaper ARchive have added a number of publications recently, including The Showman - the Music Hall and Theatre Review. Sometimes the BNA entries are also on FMP, but this one doesn't seem to be.
