Liverpool Town Hall WW1 Roll of Honour - now online

Post by daggers »

Shortly before 1100 on 11/11/08 the Lord Mayor of Liverpool inaugurated the online database of over 13,000 names transcribed and sorted from the WW1 Roll of Honour.
It can be accessed via the website http://www.civichalls.liverpool.gov.uk/. Click on Liverpool Town Hall, then scroll down to <Rooms>, select <Hall of Remembrance> and in the second paragraph of text click on <Access the database>.

You can also take a virtual tour of the Town Hall, including the Hall of Remembrance by following links.

Their name liveth for evermore.

PS The information available is only what was contributed by families in the latter years of WW1 and is not officially checked or edited. Some errors have been discovered and corrected but others may remain.

Thanks Daggers - a great resource.

Do you know if a soldier missing from the database can be added even after all this time? My grandad's brother, Private James Rolfe, 10265, 2nd battalion, the King's (Liverpool Regiment) killed in action on 17 October 1918, isn't there. And I'm sure there are others too.

best wishes

Sorry for delay in spotting your query - I was away for a few days.
There are names which have been added since the 1920s, and I think all enquiries about inclusion should be addressed to
Jean Evans (Head of the Lord Mayor’s Office), Town Hall, High Street, Liverpool L2 3SW.
(I'll bet a few of you didn't know we have a High Street!)

Thank you daggers.

Panel 54, L.Cpl. H.C. Parry, King's Royal Rifles (1st Batt.)

My great uncle died 4 Feb. 1915 in Pas de Calais (two years to the day from when he was married).
I often wonder if on that fateful day he was thinking of his dear wife and was caught unawares.

Lest we forget.

An update: at the request of families, some WW! victims' names have been added to the 'spare' panel in the Hall of Remembrance and a dedication ceremony will be held next week.

Thank you D for a wonderful site.
I've put the link into the Bootle Forum, lots of expats may like to take the tour of the Town Hall :) .
