Magdalen Bridge, Oxford.

Post by Philip Roberts »

Whilst poking around hidden places in Oxford, where I live, I found a stone underneath Magdalen Bridge. This is very much off the tourist trail.

It says "The foundation stone of the old part of this bridge was laid March 26 1773.

It was widened 20 feet on the south-west side and both parapets were rebuilt by the Oxford Local Board 1882-3

Engineer, W.H. White, M. Inst. C.E
Contractor, George Moss, Liverpool"

If this information is of interest to anyone I can email a picture of it.

Can't keep a good scouser down, they pop up everywhere. Thanks for thinking of the forum Philip, I'll put this post over on the Strays Board, and if you'd like to put a photograph on of course we'd love to see it. If you don't know how the instructions are here

I do not know if I have been successful with my picture. All I know is that it is displayed on Photobucket under the Proberty name. I have pressed all kinds of buttons and things but, it seems, without the success of showing the picture in the place I would like it to be seen.
