After a long absence I have once again been bitten by the genealogy bug and I'm actively seeking information about my g.grandmother Louisa Kearns nee Murphy. Louisa is listed on the 1881 census for Liverpool as living with her husband William Kearns and four daughters at 6 Aintree Street, Liverpool. On the 1891 census William is listed as living as a boarder with 5 daughters at 92 Lamb Street. Catherine the youngest daughter is then aged 7 so I've been searching for the death of Lousia possibly around 1892/2 but haven't been able to locate it. Wonder if any member can help me with my search?

Re: Louisa Kearns
Many thanks Alison I knew the members of the Forum wouldn't let me down. Will now order her death certificate, a bit morbid I know but I like to see the cause of my ancestors deaths. xx

Re: Louisa Kearns
Not morbid at all, there are often facts that come to light with certificates that prove invaluable, always worthwhile.

Re: Louisa Kearns
I have the death cert of relatively recent ancestor where the female informant was not a family member that I knew of, certainly not his wife or any of his grown-up children, but she gave the home same address as the deceased. I assumed she was perhaps a live-in nurse, but from subsequent investigation she turned out to be almost certainly his mistress!MaryA wrote:Not morbid at all, there are often facts that come to light with certificates that prove invaluable, always worthwhile.

Edited to add: He was in his late 70s when he died. His 'live-in' was 47 and wasn't his housekeeper! His will was disputed by his widow after he left the bulk of his estate to his 'live-in'.

Re: Louisa Kearns
So it seems that death certificates can reveal many things other than the cause of death. Incidentally my g.grandmother's father Francis Murphy is on the Liverpool census as being born in County Wexford.

Re: Louisa Kearns
Sounds good must try to get there sometime when I'm in the UK or better still take a holiday in Ireland. Now I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of the certificate which I've ordered, wonder if I'll find any juicy tit bits too.
