Hi I am delighted to meet another member of the Colquitt-Craven family. I am in touch with descendants of the Colquitt Cravens of Brockhamton Park. They are direct descendants of Goodwin Colquitt-Craven, Leila Louise and the Coventry, Dudley, Wallace and Amphlett families. I am not quite sure how you are related to them. I am fascinated how you have so many portraits of the family when none of the family seem to know where they are. I imagine that you are related to the four Colquitt-Craven sisters.
John Scrope Colquitt was cousin of Goodwin Colquitt and they fought together in the First Foot guards in the Peninsular War. Goodwin Colquitt was seriously injured at the Battle of Barrosa in Cadiz in 1811.
I live in Alcala de Guadaira near Seville. Please contact me. My e-mail is andrewfmartin [at] yahoo.es and we have a blog lacruzdelingles2012.blogspot.com.

Thanks once again to the Liverpool and South West Lancashire Family History Society. We will be mentioning you in the spring edition of the Waterloo Journal, where we are going to publish an article. Our monument will be inaugurated on May 5th but there's still a lot more things to be discovered.

You and I share Goodwin Colquitt Craven in our ancestry. he was my great great grandfather too.

Where is your family in Hampshire? Are you the Nick Craven who is a jounalist? I would love to see the paintings you have and wonder whether they are similar to ones which were in my family. I have the whole family tree somewhere and will send it to you by email.

I note you are in Spain near Andrew but wonder whether that is temprary or permanent.

In fact I am highly curious.

I am in Somerset, I have two living sisters and my parents are dead.

Hi Sam...would be great to see how we are related. I live in Ronda most of the year and know Somerset quite well after having been educated at Downside many moons ago!

All the portraits we have came to my mother through Joan Prudence (my grandmother). Her mother (Hilda Charlotte) was Lewis Fulwar's little sister so I imagine they were acquired when he sold Brockhampton but am not sure.

I am not Nick Craven but Nick Flynn. My mother married Cdr. Freddie Flynn (RN deceaced). The family house is in a little village about 6 miles from Petersfield and 12 from Winchester. My mother still lives there....as do the portraits. I will try to get them photographed, scanned and sent to you but this may take some time.

Would love to see your family tree. Mine is very faded and wont scan well so will try to type it up and get it off to you when I get a mo.

Nick

Andrew has been in touch to say that all is now in hand for a rededication ceremony at the memorial to Lt.Col. Colquitt. Although Spain is suffering financially, there will be some civic representatives as well as a Grenadier Guards drummer/bugler and several from the Colquitt-Craven family.

Sadly no portrait has been traced, despite great efforts by Andrew and his supporting team. He is very grateful for input through this forum.

That's a shame, but we are pleased that we have been able to be of help.

If anyone wishes to see reports on the ceremony, try Google, using 'John Scrope Colquitt' as the search term. They seem to have had a successful event.

To finish matters off, Andrew in Spain has forwarded a copy of the Waterloo Journal to Daggers with an article on the Scrope Colquitt saga. Thanks Andrew if you are reading this.
