Mary/Polly and Florence Dickinson - Formby
Mary/Polly and Florence Dickinson - Formby
Hi All, Help needed. I have trying to find more information on Cissie/Polly/Mary and Florence Dickinson. Mary was born on 19/09/1894 and Florence on 29/01/1896 - I found these birth dates in the National Schools Register for Formby. Polly was baptised Walton on the Hill on 28/10/1894. Have not been able to find any marriage or death information. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have the 1901 and 1911 census below.

Re: Mary/Polly and Florence Dickinson - Formby
Even if I don't find anything else, just wanted you to know that I am looking, checked that they aren't there in 1939 as the house is occupied by Harry and Clare Booth and daughter Amy.

Re: Mary/Polly and Florence Dickinson - Formby
Thanks Mary for having a look, I have Findmypast and access to the 1939 register and not able to find any dickinson's with the birthdates of the girls. They cannot have vanished. I am looking to see if there are any cousins (if there are they will be 2nd, 3rd or 4th) still living in Formby. I have just made contact with some second cousins here in Australia, unfortunately they dont live near me but a visit will happen. I remember them but lost contact 50 years ago, these cousins belong with Amy and Elsie. Once again Mary, thanks for looking, anything you find will be very helpful.

Something I was confused about too Tina, I know Polly is often a nickname for Mary, but perhaps Cissie was the same person but actually "Sissie" ie sister?Tina wrote:G'day Carole, Is Cissie aka Polly?? thanks Tina

Re: Mary/Polly and Florence Dickinson - Formby
Hi, I believe that it is the same person looking at both census records and I have a baptism record -all give a birth year 1894. Baptism = Polly 28/10/1894
Mary in the 1901 census, Cissie 1911census. I also have her listed as Mary for her School Admissions record - birthday 19/09/1894 which ties in with her baptism in October 1894. Doing my head in. Thanks for any info you can find. Cheers Carole

Re: Mary/Polly and Florence Dickinson - Formby
Polly's baptism was at St Peter's Formby which was a chapelry of the parish of Walton on the Hill. Harry was christened at the same church on 8 October 1893. Also Amy Stuart Ellen was christened at St Peter's on 19 June 1892.

Re: Mary/Polly and Florence Dickinson - Formby
Eleanor Kate was buried on 22 October 1914 at St Peter's Formby from 47 Old Mill Lane Formby. I imagine that this would have meant the break up of the family. Do you know what happened to all the other children?

Re: Mary/Polly and Florence Dickinson - Formby
Hi Hilary, Thanks for your help. I am looking for Mary (Polly, Cissie) and Florence. I have not been able to track them past 1911 census. I have found the other brothers and sisters in the 1939 register. I have tried OPC, BMD, Ancestry and Find my Past but with no luck, not sure where else to look. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Im coming again for a visit the first week of June, so maybe a cuppa at the Atkinson is on the cards. Cheers Carole
Re: Mary/Polly and Florence Dickinson - Formby
I'll have a look in the directories next week and see if that gives any clues, other than that I can only suggest they moved away and married there or they emigrated.
Coffee at the Atkinson in June sounds good, let me know when and I'll see if Val can be there too.

Just had a thought, where did the other siblings marry, if locally do you know where? Maybe their marriage certificates give clues.

Re: Mary/Polly and Florence Dickinson - Formby
There are a few matches with people going out of liver pool that may match. Found on anc. Might be worth looking at.
Re: Mary/Polly and Florence Dickinson - Formby
The other siblings marriages as follows
Amy married 1916 Winchester, husband in army there, they returned and lived in Formby until she emigrated in 1960 to Australia
Harry married Annie Smith in 1915 in Silsden, Yorkshire and he died 1927 there.
Samuel Richard (my grandfather) married in Manchester, he was in the Postal Service and returned to Formby in the early 1930's emigrated in 1960 and died 1974.
Elsie never married but lived with her sister Amy intermittently and emigrated to Australia 1960 and died 1963
Joe/George married Beryl Munslow in 1928 - marriage record states Ormskirk - so local, he died in Southport 1976.
I note that both the girls I am looking for were servants in the 1911 census so creates the problem, they could be anywhere.
thanks again everyone. Hilary, at this stage should be in Southport from 8th June to 13th, would be great to catch up again with both yourself and Val.
