1890 Directory look-up, or '91 census please?

Post by daggers »

Has anyone got a Liverpool directory around 1890? If so, could you please look for a name DARBYSHIRE [not like the county] at Kenmore, Aigburth Drive, Sefton Park - occupation wanted.
If you could manage a census for 1891 for the same family, even better.
TIA

Hi Daggers
I can only help with 1894 Directory
The house is spelt as Kenmure Aigburth Dve (Sefton Gate to Aigburth Rd) cnr Lark Lane Toxteth Park
occupant William Moffat

1891 ref for a Francis W I Darbyshire 26 (he's in sugar!) in Aigburth Dve not the house you have mentioned
RG12/2940/43/19

In 1894 Directory he is listed as F. Norman Darbyshire saccharine manuf at "Gamblesby" Aig. Dve.
Cheers
Tina
me feet are killing me, I've been all along Aig.Dve in 1891 census until I found the house on Page 10 William Moffat is there.

Tina
Thanks for your trudge. Did you pass no 29 where I once lived in the attics?
'Sugar' is the key fact - I will now look for more. Not family, but part of my WW1 thing.

Most of those big houses are still there, but I don't think any are in single family use - all flats or hotels. The Park lake is drained for 'maintenance', so not a pretty sight. Ah me for the days of model yachts, boats for hire, horses ridden on 'Rotten Row' and a band playing...

You take it on the chin Col!
As for Lizzie, I don't think she and her pram & son would have made it to Aigburth Dve.
Rest easy.

Hi Daggers
Mr Darbyshire was born in Buenos Aires
I would have thought Demerara where the sugar come from

Thanks again, Tina. I don't know about sugar in B.A., more beef I would have thought. He may have changed horses in mid-career.
