Hi all
Does anyone out there have a street directory for 1944 for Liverpool, if not can anyone advise me where to look? (I don't think electoral rolls were published during the war years) I'm trying to find out who lived at 73 Lindley St, and 86 Fearnside St L7 ...I'm trying to verify that I have the correct marriage cert for my aunt, and these address's are given on the cert. The names I am looking for are Egan and Cochrane
Cheers, AJ

Electoral rolls as you say weren't made during the war years neither were there generally new street directories. The best you could do would be to look at the electoral rolls and directories immediately preceding the war and immediately after the war.

If the person's father and his occupation tallies with what you already know that should also indicate that it is the correct person. Also remember that many people had temporary addresses during the war years due to being bombed out or people just coming to marry and just staying a couple of nights. People also used different addresses to save having the banns called in more than one parish.

Hi AJ

Have checked the 1938 directory and neiither of the addresses are listed, in fact there are only a couple of entries for each street.
Have you any parents names or initials I could look for, there are quite a few Egans and Cochranes

Cheers

Hi Erika
Thanks for your help. Parents names were Robert Cochrane, dad of Mary Cochrane, However I doubt that his name will come up at the address's as he lived in Everton ( I think my aunt Mary used the address of my other aunt -Maggie Egan). Grooms name on cert was William Edward Allen, his father was John Allan, address Fearnside St. Mary is listed as staying at Lindley St. My aunt Mary was in the army, and the cert shows that the couple were married by licence, this is why I think she used a convenience address. If I can verify that the Egan's lived at the address, I will know for sure that I have the right cert.
