Charles Jackson - When and where did he die?

Hi,

I am looking for the demise of my great uncle, Charles Jackson. I know he was born in Hackney in 1888 and married Mary Quinn in Liverpool in 1907. They had several children between 1907 and 1928, 3 of whom were born in Trafford Park, Manchester.

Mary passed away in 1935 and Charles went on to marry a widow, Mary F Routledge(nee Fursland) in Liverpool 1944. She passed away in 1950.

By this time, Charles had been estranged from his sister, Frances Susannah Heaps (my grandmother) for a number of years, although according to my mother, he attended her funeral in 194, .albeit from behind a tree in Anfield cemetery. (How sad)

I have been having trouble pinpointing his death.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards
Frank

Hi Frank,
Be interesting to know if Mary F Jackson [Formerly Routledge, nee Fursland] was a widow when she died in 1950 in Liverpool North. It would put a time limit on Charles' demise. Anyone with access to the Echo Obits or Death Notices for Sep qtr of 1950? If she died in Bootle the local papers might help?

Hi DS and Simone,

Once again, thanks for your valuable assistance. The 1959 registration certainly looks promising as it fits in with Charles' age. I will now need to send for the cert and hope it is the right one.

Cheers

Hi Frank

Before yopu pay out for a cert it may be worth looking at the Liverpool Echo for that time in the Record Office to see if there is an obituary  or even the Probate Calenders

Hi Simone,

Yes, that would be a good idea! Where are the records housed whilst the library is being renovated?

Cheers

Here's the info Frank

notice the Probate indexes only go to 1957  what a blow... but you could still check for an obituary

If you find out that the 1959 one is not yours a look through the probate indexes may help you find him anyway  They are in year books and names listed in alphabetical order.. so by working through them you may find him somewhere before 1957 or even other family members

Good Luck

The later probate indexes are held at the Probate Registry/Office at the Queen Elizabeth 11 Courts. You just go through security and follow the signs to the Probate Office. If you find someone you can order a copy of the will there.

Don't forget to contact Sandhills before you go as you will need to order the particular documents.

The newspapers are on film at the temporary record office on Floor 2 of the World Museum. You can't book them you just turn up.

As recent as the 1960's?

Our Education Officer is so clever, I didn't realise they had all been filmed practically up to date, but from the link given by Simone above - Held at the World Museum.

"Local newspapers 1750 onwards (microfilm including Daily Post 1855-July 2010 and Liverpool Echo October 1879-July 2010."

That page also gives a link to the Sandhills Satellite service in case there is anything in document form that you need.
