NORAH DAVIES - SYDNEY USHER

Hi folks I am back again!!
Have now got auntie Norah's marriage certificate. She was married on the 24 July 1948 at the age of 44 and a spinster to Sydney Usher 41 Bachelor at St francis de sales church hale road walton. There were no children and Sydney died in about 1950. I dont know if this is the family home, Nan was married from a different address, which I have now found out was relatives of my grandad.
The interesting bit is she states father to be John william Davies, a Painter and Decorator and the address she resided in at time of marriage was 37 Hampden Street Walton. This is the same father as Sarah Davies my nan, only the occupation nan had was Proffessional Dancer. I know from nan's marriage certificate in 1926 their father was deceased.
I still can not find them anywhere, what am I doing wrong Would it be best to send for Nora's birth certificate, although mother not really known, would they be able to work from just fathers details. My nan has stated it was Sara or Sarah, but I cant be sure
Also Nora was a Health Visitor, would that be a qualified position in those days She always seemed to be well educated and not short of a bob or two, unlike Nan and Grandad. Although Nan also was well educated.
I have become so obsessed trying to find them I think I need to go back to the drawing board. Can any of you kind people help me solve this

Hi Sue,
Are you sure about the middle name William in John William Davies? It's not Nelson is it? I found a John Nelson Davies & Maggie Davies living in Walton with a daughter called Norah. When was Norah's sister Sarah born?
Sydney Usher was buried at Ford Cemetery on 10 June 1950, age says 42, address was 67 Orrell Lane, Grave JL 412. Norah Usher died in 1969 aged 65, from her death registration her date of birth was 23 April 1904.

While waiting for your answer to Blue's query I will just say that yes if you have found the references in the BMD index, you can apply to the GRO for the certificate. Giving the father's name would make it even more of a certainty, in case you have chosen the incorrect reference.
Alternatively if you don't have the reference, you could also ask the Liverpool Register Office, they would help if you gave them the name and adate, again the father's name would also be useful for reference checking.
This certificate will give you the mother's name rather than you needing to give it to the register office.
Norah and Sara(H) Davies

Hi folks
The name John William Davies appears on both Norahs and Sarah's marriage cerificate. It also appears as John Davies in my baby book which was filled in weeks after my birth.
My baby book also includes the name of John Frederick and Honora Davies as possible Great-Great Grandparents
Yes we have Nora's birthday as 23 April 1904
Sara(H) Davies we have off her death cerificate also as 7th April 1908...we have gone with this date as surely this would fit in with her pension details.
On Sarah (my nan and grandads) marriage certificate she states in 1926 she was 21!! which would make her birthday in 1905. I have been told as identification for marriage in 1926 was not asked for she could have lied but not sure.
I have found a John Frederick and Honora from Ireland, but once again cant trace they had a son called John
The lesson here is while loved ones are alive ask ask ask!!!!

Interestingly, there is another marriage entry on FreeBMD for Agnes Longley Taylor in Q4 1900 to William Watson Gurney. The marriage is also on FamilySearch which confirms here father's name as William Taylor.
However, there is no sign of the death of a John William Davies of the right age between 1897 and 1900...nor any sign of a divorce

Hi Sue
you said in a previous post that the birth cert named mum as Norah Prendegast, not Sarah... can you just confirm which it says
if you think about it Sarah and Norah aren't so far apart are they,, just 2 letters at the beginning

wonder if there has been some confusion with handwriting in the past
Thanks

funny isn't it
John William Davies, painter married Agnes Longley Taylor in 1896...Her father William is traveller... and John William is travelling in 1911. Also
Taylor family with them in 1911
coincidence maybe

but all looks a bit suspect too

Couldnt sleep so back to this
Yes Mum is Norah Prendegast not sarah............and yes the Tayor family is with them.............what on earth is going on

what indeed
wonder if it is the right John who married Agnes in 1896, and then maybe they split up .He met Norah, but they never married.
she then married William Watson Gurney in 1901... John is missing in 1911.. wonder where he went
Norah Prendegast who married Mr Biggs in 1901 remarried on 8 March 1911 to Mr Coventry. The census was taken on 2 April, so think we can rule this lady out of the equation
time for sleep
