This image is from a criminal record of a Liverpool based man who was sent to Van Dieman's Land (Tasmania) in 1844. He could be the John Brown connected to Amelia Hughes discussed on another thread.

Looks like Striker to me, any history of blacksmithing perhaps?

Not my family this one. I think it does say "L Striker" the trade is recorded elsewhere on the criminal records and looks like Labourer & ?. I was hoping it was Labourer & Builder it would have been nearer to the John Brown, bricklayer of Amelia Hughes.

I agree with striker, starting with a florid capital S, and with a loopy K.

I am afraid I don't agree I see L BricKer after tracing over it several times.

I see something like Bricker too. Don't get Striker at all.

This John Brown could be connected to Amelia Hughes on another thread. If his occupation was bricklayer it would indicate a match. Here are three different recordings of John Brown's trade the second and third look more clear cut but the first one, as has been seen on this thread, is open to debate:-

I see Labourer & Striker. The latter is the man with the big hammer. Possibly working in the iron trade, perhaps with a blacksmith or a boiler-maker.

Definitely - in my opinion, of course open to dispute - Labourer and Striker in the last two images.

I can still make out Striker in the first one, different handwriting of course. Pity there isn't any additional writing for comparison.
