St George's Certified Industrial School for Boys

Hi All

I am trying to establish if the Henry Hogan found on the 1891 Source Citation: Class: RG12; Piece: 2950; Folio: 144; Page: 6; GSU roll: 6098060. is the brother of my GGrandfather. On the census it just gives his birth place Wigan, which would be correct. I have googled the school and found that it was established by nuns between 1852-1858, the family are Roman Catholics, his mother died in Dec Q of 1889 and his father John Hogan my GGGrandfather was living with another son on the 1891 census in Wigan.

Are there any records to view at the records office that may confirm that this is my man.

Thanks
Chris

I don't know if there are any records but you could try the Liverpool Record Office Catalogue search or give them a ring and ask them.

Unless Katie knows the answer to this, I would suggest a telephone call or email to them since I didn't find any entries for records of this school in their catalogue.

Thanks Hilary & Mary I will do that I did wonder because catholic records are pretty hard to come by sometimes.

Just to let you know about 10 minutes ago I got photo's of Joseph Kellett Smith's headstone, a kind gentleman who was offering look ups on another forum found the headstone for me and sent me the photo's, I didn't even have the grave number because I am still awaiting a reply from St Bridget's Church, but he found it.

There are no records for St. Georges Industrial School in the archives, however if you write to The Nugent Care Society in Edge Lane I do believe they have some records for this School.

Just Google Nugent Care Society Edge Lane and this will give you the address.
