Hi everyone!

I wonder if anyone can help at all! My gt gt grandfather was a William Halsall born c1835 in Isle of Man - he married a Mary Ann Kelly born c1835 Isle of Man and on their marriage certificate he states his father is a Thomas Halsall occupation joiner.

But I just cannot find out how to "prove" that Thomas Halsall born 1796 in Malew Isle of Man is his father - Any ideas or suggestions would be so gratefully appreciated!

Richard born c1828 Malew
Esther born c1828 Malew - would love to know if they are twins! (I have boy and girl twins)

I think the 'proof' you are looking for is probably in early Manx records. Perhaps baptisms of William and his siblings? Check out this site: http://www.gov.im/mnh/heritage/library/ ... istory.xml

Although it is not concrete proof, there is certainly some promising info on the Lawson BMD site:

The index for the 1841 census shows what looks like two Halsall families living in the same house in Malew. There is a Thomas Halsall and children corresponding to William and his siblings. Thomas' age is 45 which ties in nicely with the Thomas you are looking for. William's mother Isabella is missing but there is a burial record on the same site for Isabella Halsall buried 18 Jan 1839 aged 42. Richard is also missing - no obvious burial record for him though. So this looks like your William and his family in 1841:

This appears to be the family of Nicholas Halsal and his wife Catherine Collister. (Their marriage and the baptisms of the children are all on FamilySearch except for Ann).

On FamilySearch, there is a baptism for a Nicholas Halsall with parents Thos Hallsall and Ann Taggart. This ties in with the parents of the Thomas Halsall you are looking for . So it looks like Thomas and Nicholas were brothers and they and their families were all living together in 1841.

I think this is the family but would just like to see some proof - a witness to a wedding or informant of a death etc. In 1851 William is a visitor at his sisters Catharine Jones in Isle of Man. Nicholas Halsall died in 1843 so the other "Halsall" family probably had to leave after his son inherited the farm.

Here are details of his marriage to Mary Ann Kelly:

At: St. Pauls, Princes Park, Liverpool
To: Mary Ann Kelly
Address :5 Llewellyn St.
Witnesses :Richard Quine & Ann Cain

An aunt has said today that 2 of our William Halsall's sons drowned aboard the Titanic! Would love to know who they were!!!
Not sure if they were the sons of William b1835 or William H born 1857 though!

While it is possible the Halsall boys were among the missing, the only Deaths at Sea in 1912 for surname Halsall are these:
In the GRO Deaths at Sea Index:
HALSALL, Emily - aged 38 - At sea - vessel "Mona's Queen" - 1912 - Page 18.

Not in the GRO Index, I think this 2nd one is a duplicate of the entry for Emily Halsall because it is a handwritten list.

Bless her she got the name wrong it was a William Revell - which is my mother's maiden name - she was talking to mum about the Halsall's and then mentioned a newspaper cutting that had been sent with regards to the Sea Odyssey in Liverpool and William Revell was mentioned. Would still like to investigate him though! It was from the "Liverpool Daily Post" about 2 weeks ago! Something about a new memorial for the Titanic!
