If you have the details of his birth you may need to send for the certificate to find out his parent's first names, this will help finding a marriage for them. Moya

Bear in mind there may not have been a marriage. The father may have agreed to give his name to the child to avoid the stigma of illegitimacy. Alternatively, the mother may have given the child the surname Coupe and there may not be a father's name on the birth cert. That happened with my maternal g.father's first child. The 18 year old mother gave her son the father's surname but didn't marry the father until nearly 6 months later.

Up-date.

Ian George died 24 May 1943 Moor Road Orrell Wigan.
Buried Grave Number 2510 Section 6U Widnes Cem:

Also in the same grave are :

George Stephen Coupe died 1928 age 61 lived in Widnes
Jessica Coupe nee Poulson wife of G.S. died 1951 age 80 in Knutsford.

The last 2 I have all the info for them.

Was Ian somehow related to GS & Jessica ?

I think this will provide the link. I was puzzled at why Ian died so young... From the CWGC site:

DEATH:
COUPE, IAN GEORGE

Rank: Flight Sergeant
Service No: 550104
Date of Death: 24/05/1943
Age: 25
Regiment/Service: Royal Air Force
Grave Reference Sec.6U. Grave 2510
Cemetery: WIDNES CEMETERY
Additional Information: Son of George Coupe, of Orrell, Lancs.

But it would seem Jessica was not his mother. Need to see the birth cert. I have a feeling Ian may have been adopted? I'll have to think that through.

Well I would think so, but the 1901 census is a bit puzzling, wonder where George is.

Hi Marge,
If you have this marriage cert:
COUPE, George Stephen married POULSON, Jessie.
Registration district: Prescot
Year/qtr of registration: 1891 / Jul-Aug-Sep
Volume no: 8B, Page no: 1228

What was George's occupation?

Thanks to you all for the help.
DS.
Sorry dont have the MC but in 1891 George was still at home occupation Pork Butcher.

All the Coupe,s I have lived in St.Helens or Widnes and as far as I know there is no connection with
Wigan apart from Ian G. dying there.

Unless his Father if it is the George who was married to Jessica left home to live with with ? Johnston definately will send for the BC.

Kind Regards to you all

Margie

Hi,
To be listed on the CWGC website, Flight Sergeant Ian George Coupe will have died on active service and is buried in Widnes Cemetery. Because you now have his RAF service number you can possibly apply for his service record.

Just a thought. Could Jessica and George S be Ian's grandparents as he is buried with them. Their son George b.1895 could be Ian's father but didn't marry his mother.
