Hi Folks,
Does anybody have access to the Probate book for 1946? I'm trying to find the entry for Harry Trevor ELLIS b.1873 d. MarQ 1946. He was a solicitor in Liverpool. Married to Rhoda JONES (I think!). Unfortunately I can't get to the records office at the moment.

Bert,
Thankyou for such a speedy reply. That saves me a lot of time in a number of ways. It also gives verification to a marriage found for him.
Just found he worked for ' North Kirk & Co ' Solicitors.
Thankyou!

Bert,
Could you look up Rhoda ELLIS for me in the probate books. I can find 4 relevant probate entries for the right name in 1953, 1957, 1958 and 1965. I'm assuming that she never remarried. Other details for her are patchy due to her maiden surname of JONES.
Kind regards
Pete

Thankyou Bert. I was hoping that one of those might shed some light on the later family.
Did any one of the 4 leave a significant amount of money, whereas maybe the other 3 didn't?
I'll try to research the family forwards now bearing in mind those finds.
Cheers
Pete

Hi Lancs BMD have a marriage for Harry T Ellis to a Rhoda Jones 1913
W Dby R.O or Registrar attended.
I'd say this is the right one as Harry is single in 1911 38yrs, solicitor, living with his
single sister in Mossley Hill.

Hi Tina,
Thanks for that, yes the Rhoda JONES is looking good. Other than the 1946 death & probate for him the trail has gone cold again.
I can find a death for Dorothy Rhoda ELLIS (Name: Dorothy Rhoda Ellis, Birth Date: 30 Dec 1913, Regd: JunQ 1983 Shepway,Kent, Age at Death:69 )
But no birth for her. And its not a mis-transcription either. I'm making the assumption her that she either never married or went back to using her maiden name as the middle name maybe significant.
Bert, would you be so kind as to look up the full probate details for Rhoda ELLIS d.1965 with the benefactor Dorothy Rhoda ELLIS.
Is it possible to also lookup Dorothy Rhoda ELLIS d.1983 too?
Pete

It isn the probate index that is shown on Ancestry. This is an index of the probate of people and when it says to this refers to the executor of the will.
You need to obtain a copy of the will to find out who the person left their estate to.

Hilary,
That's a very good point. I've just began to look into some of the trees I've researched again after a break and despite having several will copies, and 3 or so for this family, I've still forgotten that basic fact
Still, one positive has come out of it. For the person I'm trying to find, where information is very scarce, a copy of said will could be a very good read.
Thankyou for that!
