Moffatt/Moffitt marriage

I found an undocumented reference to the marriage of one Henry Moffatt/Moffit and Maria Carroll, September 1869, West Derby, Liverpool. Both parties born in Ireland. I have not been able to find any on-line marriage records for that period. This couple was living in Liverpool in 1881. I suspect that they emigrated to the US in 1883, and eventually settled in Cleveland, Ohio. I am hoping to learn if the actual marriage record contains any information about parents or place of birth. Would like to confirm my suspicion that this Henry was born in Lislary, Co. Sligo, son of Henry Moffatt/Moffatt and Catherine Healy. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately online searchs of the usual sites, subscription as well as others, has not found the details of this marriage available online.
Moya has given you the details you need to be able to order the certificate which you can do online at
http://www.gro.gov.uk and it will cost you £9.25.
Your alternate route could be to visit the Liverpool Record Office and identify which churches were close to where you believe they were living and check each parish register, actually not such an onerous task as you might think since the date has been narrowed down to the three months July - September 1869.
A marriage certificate will only confirm the father's name, not the mother's.
Good luck

From the 1881 Census I believe it is likely that Maria Carroll came from the village of Ballon, County Carlow. There isn't a civil parish of that name or near it.

Thanks D.S for Maria's parish. I knew it wasn't Sligo but had no idea.

Thank you for the tips and suggestions. I would love to visit the Liverpool Records Office, but I am stuck here in northwest Pennsylvania. So, I think I will try ordering the record online, as suggested.
The 1900 federal census for 1st Ward, Cleveland, Ohio, lists Henry Moffitt as a carpenter, which is consistent with UK records. The census indicates that Mariah had had one child, but the child was not living in 1900 - possibly something to pursue at a later date. Henry was my great-grandmother's older brother. He has been a bit hard to track down, so I am delighted to find some trace of him in Liverpool.

This will probably confirm that you are looking for an RC marriage.
Baptism at Sacred Heart 30 May, 1872, born 2 May
Charlotte Maria Moffitt
Parents Henrici and Maria (nee Carroll)
I wonder if anybody could read and translate the two words in brackets before the name?
I find no trace that this child's birth was registered, nor possibly it's death, so the baptism might be a clue to her short lifespan.

Without ceremony probably because the parents knew the baby was not going to live for very long after birth so they called for the priest? It was probably at the parent's home and done in a hurry.

Wow! I can only say thank you so much to everyone who has helped with the Moffitts. Can't tell you how much it means to fill in some of the missing pieces. Isn't it sad that Henry and Mariah lost their only child . . .
I know this is unlikely, but if anyone on this list needs something that I could help with on this side of the pond, please let me know.
