Baptisms St Peters Liverpool - brickwall

Perhaps someone could help me with this brick wall.
My Great Grandmother was born Liverpool 1849 according to the 1851 and subsequent census. Her name was Mary Jane Howard. She lived nearly all her life in Gascoyne St,(even after her marriage)
Her older brothers were baptised at St Peters, but the records fo 1849 have not been transcribed by Lancashire on line paris council - to whom I give my greatest thanks (best site on the internet!!

) Do you think this is because they have been lost. If not St Peters is there another church close by.
If any one can help as I have no baptism OR registration of her birth.
Thanks Lynne

This is odd, there was a Mary Ann Howard baptised at St Peters on 29th October 1848, parents names John and Jane, living at Rathbone St, occupation Shipwright.
Not sure what you think about that?

Hello Lynne,
It is always possible that a YoB could be out by at least a year and there is only one registration in Liverpool for a Mary Jane Howard in the period 1848 and 1850.
HOWARD, Mary Jane
Registration district: West Derby, Lancashire
Year of registration: 1848; Sep qtr
Volume no: 20; Page no: 943
If you wanted to order this cert you can always specify the parents' names in your application to the GRO. Just omit the Volume and Page numbers and only enter the year. Where it asks if the references are known tick the No box. A new page will open where you can enter the parents' names. The GRO will search 1 year either side of the specified year, If they don't find a match your fee will be refunded.
Remember also, that not all births were registered back then. At that time it was incumbent on the District Registrar to 'seek out' births from information gleaned from priests and midwives, etc. He was paid by 'the each'. That changed in the 1870s when it became a legal duty for parents to register the birth within 6 weeks of the event.

As you say it is Richard and Elizabeth Howard.
I have sent for all mary James and had them check all Marys but none with the correct parents.

St Peter's baptised hundred of children every year so to look through the whole of 1849 would be a long task.
It appears that you can browse the baptisms on Ancestry. They are not indexed yet.
If you have Ancestry on the home page click on Search at the top and you will get up a search box and below that a map of the UK.
Click on England
Then put in Lancashire in the county box
Then go to show all birth marriages and death etc
Browse down to Liverpool Baptisms - 1906
On the right of the page find Browse
Go down all the parishes for Liverpool St Peters and then dates come up.
Click on 1849
You have 142 pages to go through
Have fun!
If you don't have Ancestry your local libary may have.
