Hi all, I was wondering if anyone on here has the Davies family in their tree? I am researching my husbands family and their roots are Owen John Davies and Mary Elizabeth Thomas. My husbands father was Kenneth Davies born in 1935 in 107 Rice Lane, home address 11 Hackett Avenue, Bootle. Many thanks for the wonderful job you all do. Terri.

Hi Terri,
Welcome to the forum. Here is the marriage record for Owen John Davies and Mary Elizabeth Thomas. They married at St. John's church Bootle in 1919. The fathers' names and other details on the record should be useful in taking your research further back:-

Hi Terri,
Possible Birth: DAVIES, Owen John
Registration district: West Derby
Year of registration: 1898; Jun qtr
Volume no: 8B; Page no: 552
1901: This appears to fit...
RG number: RG13 - Piece: 3491 - Folio: 107 - Page: 21
Address: 12 Gilead Street, West Derby, Liverpool.
DAVIES, Owen J - Head - Married - 28 - 1873 - Sewerman's labourer - Llamoychlan, Merionethshire.
DAVIES, Isabella - Wife - 24 - 1877 - General Shop Keeper, Grocer - Scotland
DAVIES, Owen J - Son - 3 - 1898 - Liverpool.
DAVIES, Andrew - Son - 0 (11 MOS) - 1900 - Liverpool.
Llamoychlan appears to be written on the summary sheet but I think the word begins with Llan meaning church. This is the nearest I have found so far is Llanuwchllyn, almost midway between Bala and Dolgellau. Remember a Welsh accent speaking to perhaps a Scouse ear....

In the 1901+10 census Isabella has remarried...
Marriage: DAVIES, Isabella married SLOAN, Harry [mariner/seafarer bn about 1858]
Registration district: West Derby
Year of registration: 1909; Jun qtr
Volume no: 8B; Page no: 880
Henry/Harry is not present in the household [away at sea].
Address: 53 Carmel St, Everton, Liverpool.
Isabella says she has been married 14 years but I believe that refers to her previous husband. No marriage comes up for her in England or Wales but she has a daughter 'Lizzie' Davies bn abt 1893 in Wigton, Scotland, where she herself comes from.
Death of previous husband?
DAVIES, Owen Jones [sic]
Registration district: West Derby
Year of registration: 1908; Sep qtr
Age at death: 34
Volume no: 8B; Page no: 323

I think the other one almost tops that with Isabella Han and sons Henry and Stanley Hoan! Correction submitted!
Any sign of a baptism for DAVIES, Owen John [bn 1898] and DAVIES, Andrew [bn 1900]?

With Isabella saying she is from Wigtown, looked for possible births there in Scotland's People. Found these on a no-surname search:

1877 - MARTIN, ISABELLA HANNAH - WIGTOWN - SGRO ref 901/00 0052

Haven't yet found a marriage for her and Owen Davies.

There are ww1 army papers for Owen John Davies on ancestry, it comes up for an address Hawthorne Road Bootle, but looking through the papers there is another address 56 Miranda Road Bootle. Regimental number 661720.
Henry Sloan died at 56 Miranda Road in 1939, there is a will for him also on ancestry.
Also there is a son Andrew, he was Andrew Rodie Davies.
Getting back to the address in Merionethshire, it could be Llanuwchllyn.

If the place of birth is Llanuwchllyn, as I had surmised, the relevant District Registration Office would have been Bala. However, there's the possibility the birth could be registered in Dolgellau [Dolgelly is the old 'English' spelling] because it was a market town with a thriving wool export industry about the same distance from Llanuwchllyn as Bala and Owen Jones' father was a farmer.

Re Owen Jones Davies' wife.. only one matching birth 1870 to 1878 on Scotland's People, and it is in the right place. Only had a couple of credits so couldn't download her full birth registration.
1876 - RODIE, ISABELLA - GLASSERTON district - WIGTOWN - SGRO ref: 885/00 0019
And this looks like her daughter, Lizzie, who is in the 1901+10 census household.
1893 - RODIE, LIZZIE REW - SORBIE district - WIGTOWN - SGRO ref:897/00 0003
