Hi,
In 1897 a Cecilia Bonney is witness to a marriage which took place at Corpus Christi RC Rainford.
Cant find her either before this date or after, can anyone help please.

Please can you post the names of the couple who she was the witness to and all the details on the marriage certificate. Did they live in Rainford?

14th August 1897.
Charles Neary of Southport, Father Patrick Neary.

married:

Catherine Bonney of Rainford, Father Joseph Bonney.

The other witness was William Bonney, both he and Cecilia are listed as from Rainford.

No ages given but I have Charles born c1869 & Catherine 1872.

Where are the couple Charles and Catherine Neary in 1901 and 1911?

Regarding the signature/name of Cecelia Bonney can you scan this section of the marriage cert at as high a resolution as you can get on your scanner, clip the scan to just the signature, and post the image here?

I thought it might have been another Bonney brother marrying a Cecilia, but no luck trying to find one, its strange there is no trace of a Cecilia Bonney, I was wondering if its her signature or does X mark the spot and its really Cecilia Neary. Whoever signed made an error.

My thoughts also, no x think who ever wrote it has made a mistake, as I have just found a marriage for Cecilia Neary in 1895 to a Joseph Sephton, it just goes to show never believe what is written, but at least it has solved the mystery for me.

Is the certificate from the GRO or register office? If it is I suggest you check out the actual entry in the church register to see what that says.

I met a lady on the bus who has been to our Help desk in Liverpool and I know she is researching Bonney from the St. Helen's area. I thought it was her who posted this request but it wasn't. The Neary family are her Great Uncle and Aunt apparently. I am going to send her what has been posted and if it's ok with her I'll pas her email in a pm. Small world.
