Hello,
Welcome to the forum. Using the surname origin search on Ancestry it appears the surname is a Lancashire one there is a very large concentration of the surname in the area.

I was a Stirrup & am researching them. My lot were in Liverpool from about 1830 I think. I think they came from Warrington area before that but have not got so far back yet.

In researching the names on a WW1 memorial plaque in Garston to soldiers of a local Territorial Artillery battery I came across this:
STIRRUP, PETER KIRKMAN Rank: Driver, Regiment: Royal Field Artillery. Unit Text: "B" Bty., 277th Bde. Age: 23 Date of Death: 29/03/1918, died of wounds. Service No: 685683 Additional information: Son of Mr. and Mrs. Stirrup, of 27, Station Rd., Bamber Bridge, Preston, Lancs.
Grave Reference: P. VII. L. 11B. Cemetery: ST. SEVER CEMETERY EXTENSION, ROUEN, Seine-Maritime, France.
He earned the Victory and British War Medlas & the 1915 Star, and entered France on 1/10/15. Former no: 1584.
He will have joined up in another unit, probably in Preston, but transferred at some stage, possibly after illness or wounding.

My sister is married to a Billy Stirrup but apart from that I've never heard the name before.
