On the 1871 census the Barrow family have an aunt living with them who is widowed aged 61, I am trying to find out who she is Aunt to (Thomas Barrow or Harriet Heyes). I also want to find out who she married. It says she was born in hale. Can anyone give any light to this please.

Please could you post the actual census entry with all the names to help us.
In 1861 Martha has a husband called William a farmer of 4 acres born in Eccleston.

The census should be filled in, relation to head of family, so she should be Thomas Aunt, His Dads married sister?

Bert that makes sense, or could it be his mothers married sister, I cannot find out who Thomas Barrow's (born 1822 Ditton) mother is ??
I have been pondering over this for months now and thought someone might be able to help me link up the mysterious aunt Martha
I did find that she was married to William Beesley from Eccleston but I could find a marriage of them to get her maiden name

Josiah Sparks marries Martha Barrow in 1863 at St Thomas Eccleston. The couple are shown with Martha's parents in 1871
I wonder if this marriage is worth investigating for Aunt Martha
William Beesley marries Margaret Burrows in 1852 at St Thomas Eccleston.
I can't find William Beesley with Martha before 1861. There is a William with a wife Martha but he's a stonemason and not the same person.
Not that right marriage as I've just found it on
www.lan-opc.org.uk
Marriage: 9 May 1852 St Thomas, Eccleston, Lancs.
William Beasley - 28 Blacksmith Bachelor of Windle
Margaret Burrows - (X), 25 Spinster of Windle
Groom's Father: William Beasley, Stone Mason
Bride's Father: Samuel Burrows, Labourer
Witness: John Andrews; Mary Rigby, (X)
Married by Banns by: G. Thornton Mostyn Incumbent
It's the wrong Beasley family.

I'm not sure if I have looked at Hatton's tree on Anc,
Harriet Hayes, Father, John Heyes, 1795/1852, Mother, Jane Gill, 1797/1859.
Thomas Barrow, 1800, Father, Thomas Barrow, Mother, Elizabeth.
From there I looked and found marriage, April 1859,
William Baasley (Beesley) 58, widower, watch maker, Father, John Beesley, watch maker,
Martha Gill, 50, spinster, Father, Thomas Gill, gamekeeper,
There is a couple of William Beesley died 1860.

some other Beesley's on the same page, one being a Thomas age 28 and his wife Martha and they have a Jospeh Burrows boarding with them
so could these census entries be the same William, maybe married twice

ties in nicely with the 1851 census entry

and notice a Gill family member on the 1861 census entry

Thank you all you wonderful people, I think my mysterious Aunt Martha has been finally place in the family tree.
I think she was Harriets Aunt, Jane Gill's sister.
The marriage seems to be correct and Thomas Gill was a game keeper (although i think he may have been deceased at the time of the marriage as he would have been 90?).
It looks like William was married to Ann (from Parr) and remarried to My Aunt Martha.
I could not find her birth at Hale St Mary's where the other children were christened but I am certain it is her ( no records befor 1813).
I am going to check out Thomas Barrow's mother from the info you have given me I am sure it is right though.
Thank you for all your help
Andrea
