Can anybody tell me it the details recorded on death certificate are always correct. On my grandmother's
(Winifred Snelham) death certificate it states that she died at 107 Rice Lane Liverpool on the 22 Feb. 1940 though her residential address is given at 39 Tollerton Road, West Derby. My sister who remembers the event says that this is incorrect as she died in Walton Hospital where she'd been a patient for 6 weeks. I'm wondering if my sister has had a slight lapse of memory, she is 86, a I find it difficult to believe that anybody with asthma & bronchitis would be hospitalised for 6 weeks. Also is it possible to discover who lived at 107 Rice Lane on this date as I doubt I'll be around when the census for that year becomes available.

Hi Maggie,

The information on a Death Certificate is only as accurate as whoever gave the information knows, which is why we often don't believe the age given.

In this case however, the address is probably quite accurate, historically 107 Rice Lane was always given as the address of the Workhouse or Infirmary on Rice Lane, but of later years it did indeed become Walton Hospital, well known to many of us here in Liverpool who were born there or had relatives treated or died there.

It has now closed and all treatment and infirmities dealt with generally at Fazakerley Hospital a couple of miles down the road, however the famous clock tower still remains. http://www.heritage-explorer.co.uk/web/ ... it=welfare
