My great great great granddad John Oakes born born in Fazackerly in 1827, which church would he have got baptised in at that time, I have found him on the census in 1851 in ditton and that is as far as I have got. Also it say's he was brother in law to John Vickerstaff but how could he have been related, as far as I can find out he was a batchelor when he married Sarah Dennett in 1853? This has baffled me- it's probably easy and staring me in the eye, but any help will be apprieciated
Thanks Andrea

Hi Andrea,
John's sister's husband would have been his brother in law.

Another meaning of brother in law is also step brother.

Re: John Oakes born Fazakerly 1827
Thank you to all your replies, I accidently found the census of 1851(wrongly transcribed as cokes) last night whilst searching for someone else and that's why I enquired to you clever wonderful people. I found the birth of john on the parish records and also they had a daughter named Anna too, I will now search for the birth of Jane, I think we have solved the query of the brother in law (as well as adding some more ancestors).
Didn't the men in those day move quickly, Jane had only been dead three months and he got married to Elizabeth???
Thanks for your help and I will call for your help if I get stuck again
