Hi, this burial entry has been found at All Saints RC Church, Golborne but there is a comment on it we are unsure what it means. Can anybody help with a translation please? Google translation has
apud = at/among/before/by/near
Com = together

Since Golborne is/was a parish in Leigh district 'Com apud Leigh' might mean buried 'with others' [in a family grave?] or simply in a cemetery at Leigh.

Thank you, I think more investigation needed. Sadly grave registers for churches haven't always survived which makes it difficult to discover if there are multiple burials in the one grave.

This church was relocated and it wasn't known that there was a graveyard there, now a row of houses.

Thinking about it, perhaps you are right, there might not have been a graveyard, just the service at the church and burial elsewhere. Definitely more investigation needed. Thanks

That part of it is in the hands of Glenys, it was she who asked about the latin.

I cannot give you a translation, but the same expression can be seen in the burial register for St Marie's RC church in Widnes (except that it says "Appleton" instead of "Leigh").

As you have already suggested Mary, I took this to mean that the service took place at St Marie's and the burial was at St Bede's in Appleton, Widnes. (St Marie's never have a cemetery, the only RC one available in Widnes was at St Bede's.)

This has proved to be correct for all of the burials that I have been interested in, the cemetery records for St Bede's show that the people named in the St Marie's burial register were actually buried in St Bede's cemetery.

Thank you Tex T, I hope that confirms it, there was great surprise that there ever was a graveyard around the church as nobody remembered it.
