My 3x great grandfather Henry Manchester (b 1801 Bickerstaffe, baptised Ormskirk) died in March 1835, when he was run over by a cart. Probate was granted in Cheshire court (from both Anx and FMP) in 4 April 1836 and the will proved that August. Cheshire wills and probate on FMP. He was a wheelwright. Executors were John , Helen and James Manchester, when the will was proved, but probate had been granted to his widow Sarah.
I would like to know how I can see this will and if there was a coroner's report because of accident. Can any one help me, please. I've tried searching National Archives to no avail. Although I may have done it incorrectly.
Further info. His wife was Sarah Dean, who died in Preston in 1853. I have the death certificate. They had 7 children that I know of; Margaret, 1796; Timothy, 1797; Josiah (Joseph) 1799;Henry 1801; John 1807; James 1809;Thomas 1911. Why the gap between Henry and John??? The only girl, Margaret, died aged 2 and the others all lived to adulthood.
The family were all baptised and buried in Ormskirk - with headstones

The will will be held at Lancashire Archives if it still exists. Before 1858 wills were proved in the church courts. Bickerstaffe was in the Chester Diocese.

To see the will you either have to go to Lancashire Archives or you cabn request a copy and they will tell you how much it will cost for the copy. They are not online.

Wills of people who lived in the Lancashire part of the Chester Diocese had their wills proved at Chester but because they lived in Chester the wills are held at the Lancashire Archives at Preston.

I have sent them an enquiry. Will let you know what the outcome is.

The coroner's report is best checked in the newspapers, more likely to have a record.

Which paper do you suggest. I have FMP and searched the papers on there, but searching the name Manchester is a big problem because it brings up every mention of Manchester the town

So he wasn't born 1801 ? More like 1769/1770?

First of all great thanks to retiring type and blue 70. Where did you find the report and how did you search for them. I had spent ages on FMP and got no where
Secondly , I am sorry about his DoB it was his son Henry b 1801, he was born 1770.
Every family had a son Henry.

The newspaper articles were not from FMP they were from another site but they were difficult to find not every article can be found by searching using the key words. For some reason some articles won't appear in the search results.

Lynne99, as you have an accurate date of death you could search the individual newspapers and browse, the old newspapers site, accessed via your Lancashire Library Card is often more useful than Findmypast.

Yes I found them using my Lancs library card. Searching for Henry Manchester around March/April 1835 will find the article containing the obituary amongst the results but you will need to view the full page and enlarge it to find the report about the inquest. For the Liverpool Mercury report you need to go to "browse publication by location" and select "North West - Liverpool - Liverpool Mercury". Select the 3rd April 1835 issue and click on the article that is headed "21. Sefton Church-rates..."

You don't need to be from Liverpool to apply for a Lancashire library card, anywhere in the country will do.

Can you tell me how to get the library card please.

I live in Wales and they gave me one. I went on the site Lancashire Libraries and tried to apply but i had a problem and some friends who i know could not get one either. I rang them in the end and they posted it to me. It is really useful for newspapers. Lin
