I have Thomas Andrew Jolliffe born 1850 in Hull. I can find him on 1851 census in Hull and at 50 Upper Parliment Street 1871 and 1881 but can I find him or his family in 1861 !! his father was William (born 1815) and mother Jane.
Thomas A died in 1889. He had a son Thomas(Tom) Andrew born 1883 who I can find in 1891, or 1911 he died 1919. 1901 census High Street Uppingham , probably a boarding school.
Is it me or have they vanished ? HELP

There's a Thomas Jolliffe born 1850 Hull at a school in Farndon Cheshire in 1861. Could that be your Thomas?

There's a William of the right age in Toxteth Park in 1861. Was he a ship owner with a brother Thomas?

Hi Hilary, yes that's him, he was a ship owner and had a younger brother Thomas. Can you let me have piece number etc please. I've searched 1861 census without any luck.
The school entry may well be him again can you let me have details please.

Thanks for your help

If the 1901 Uppingham school is indeed the public school there, you should contact their archivist or librarian as they probably have some record of a later career.

I'm pretty sure that the school is Uppingham School as it is right in the centre of Uppingham and agree they will or should have records.

Thanks Bert looks like the marriage. I don't have access to Scotland's people hence me being unable to find his first marriage.

I can't make out Catherine's father's surname it could be Stewart, his forename was Robert.

Thanks again.

Possible 1891 for the family,

Thomas Dewhurst 33, Telephone Labourer.
Mary Dewhurst 33
Jane Dewhurst 13
Habroal Dewhurst 10 Transcription error?

Could Habroal be Abigail?
Telephone Labourer could be remembered as Electrician when Abigail married.
