Thank you for accepting me to your forum.
I am researching my Evans family in Liverpool/Bootle area.
I am at the moment looking to find information on Alice Evans. Born 19 February 1928. Baptised Christ Church, Bootle. 4 March 1928.
Parents Alice Murphy and Thomas Alfred Evans.
Alice is one of three children of Alice and Thomas Alfred Evans. Helena Gertrude born 1925 died 1926. while Thomas Alfred (jnr) b 1926 died 1986. I believe that Alice attended the funeral of her brother in 1986 in London but family have never heard from her since. Not sure if she was married or not. Have looked in 1939 registers but nothing turns up there.
Thomas Alfred Evans (snr) died 1933. It is believed that Alice Murphy may have remarried. I have never been able to find a marriage for Thomas Alfred and Alice Murphy, even though Thomas's death cert has Alice Evans, wife, as the informant.
The family knows very little about Alice Murphy as well. So any help here would be much appreciated.
Parents of Alice Evans b 1928 were living at 14 spring grove Bootle with Thomas's mother when Alice was born.
It is thanks for help from Hilary Ambrose that I was able to find the family baptisms while on a visit to Crosby Library in 2015. I would dearly love to find out more information about this family if at all possible.
I have searched for some time for information, but maybe another pair of eyes might find something I have missed.
Thank you for any help.
Regards
Barbara

Hi and welcome to the forum.
The death index for Thomas Alfred Evans gives his exact birthdate as 28 December 1926, which fits with the birth registration
Births Mar 1927
Evans Thomas A Murphy W.Derby 8b 655
However either that date is incorrect or the entry for the 1939 register as there is nothing matching, as you say, does this date match the entry you have on his baptism? or perhaps it is his baptism date, sometimes this happens.
Do you have his death certificate, who registered the death? if it was a wife that could give another clue.
I think we have to consider that the parents were not married in England, there is no entry in the marriage indexes, nor on LancashireBMD, or CheshireBMD, which are the likeliest places to find it.
It might be worth considering whether Alice was Irish and possibly the marriage took place in Ireland. We have a lot of hints and links for Irish research collected here
https://www.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/ ... 14&t=13912 which you might find useful and the Civil Records are now available to search here
https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/
I hope you find some of this useful, meantime some of our other members will I'm sure have some more suggestions.

There's not much showing in Ireland. This one in Cardiff looks too early:

... but maybe not if he was in the Royal Navy during WW1?

Findmypast is good for seamen's records. I don't have a subscription, but a search throws up a number of records for (probably multiple) Thomas Alfred Evans. It might be worth joining fmp to get a different view from Ancestry:
http://search.findmypast.co.uk/results/ ... name=evans
EDIT: I see you have already searched fmp:

It might be a good plan to summarise all you know about Thomas Alfred's service at sea to give folk an idea of when/where he could have got married. If he was still at sea long after the war, maybe the Cardiff marriage is still a possibility?

Here's Stephen Evans, another family member, searching...

Someone mentions the 1914 marriage in Cardiff. Stephen Evans says that '...my grandmother may have remarried to the family name of O'Donoghue or Donoghue...'. There is a marriage of Alice V. Evans to Michael Donoghue in Merthyr Tydfil in 1931; that's before the reported death of Thomas Evans?
Period: Mar 1931
District: Merthyr T.
Volume: 11a

If Thomas Jnr's entry was not updated with his death by the NHS whilst they were still using this register, his entry in the 1939 Register will not have been uncovered. The only way to get it uncovered would be to send FMP a copy of his death certificate.

Hopefully it won't be long before the records are updated, I've recently noted a record has been opened relative to a death in 2013.
