Transcription help

Post by JohnnyO »

Can anyone please help to work out the characters on the marital status of Joseph Formby in the attached pic. It looks like the first character is a letter 'S' based on the ones below, but not sure what is after that. 'W' for widow maybe? :?

Thanks

I would say S for Single, however I believe the other markings are to do with the Enumerator adding up various sections later, I don't think it has anything to do with the status, same as the mark next to the M -arried by Edward Formby.

Thanks Mary. I did wonder what that mark next to the 'M' was as well.
