Address Query...

William Hampson, from the 1881 Census, was working as a general servant at 109, High Street, Wavertree, West Derby, Lancashire. Other people at this address have job titles that suggest the property may have been a hotel. Would it be possible for one of the nice peeps here who have access to those Directory thingies to have a shufty (genealogy term) to see if there is a name for this hotel, if it was one. Many thanks!

No match in Kellys 1881, nor for a Mary Vickers, so I would imagine she is merely selling from her house, rather than being a legitimate registered public house.

Image from 1894 Directory, there's also a snippet in the 1885 Liverpool Mercury putting William Dilworth at 109 High St, Wavertree.

I think that entry in the 1881 census can only be the Lamb Hotel. The enumerator must have made a mistake with the numbering.
The 1881 directory lists the proprietor of the Lamb Hotel as Mrs Sarah Gudgeon. The census lists Thomas and Sarah Dudgeon as the son and daughter of Mary Vickers.

Many thanks, MaryA, bertieone, and retiringtype. Gosh, those enumerators must have been squiffy when they were doing their thing, hey ho. Thanks for the images too - great stuff!
