My Great Grandfather, John William Killen, was a Liverpool Carter and died on 26th December 1895 following an accident when a cart toppled over and crushed his left leg. He died in the Northern Hospital. His death certificate states that there was an inquest on the 28th December but I have not been able to find the outcome of this or any other information. Any help on this would be gratefully received.

An excerpt from a Liverpool Record Office guide below indicating that the inquest papers haven't survived and inquest registers are also not available for that date. Only newspaper sources will provide further information. Local newspapers did not cover every inquest in their locality it usually depended on the newsworthiness of the case:-

Liverpool Mercury, Monday 30 December 1895, only mentions two of the inquests before city coroner TE Sampson on Saturday 28 December 1895, the inquests for Patrick Gallagher (48) of Christian Street and Mary Ellen Quirk (18) of Eden Street.

If the death was registered (by the coroner?) after the inquest (as it should have been), what's on the death certificate probably IS the outcome of the inquest.
