Just been looking at Kelly's directory, for 1881, on Ancestry,. I have found Samuel Balmer of 355 Westminster Road , Kirkdale who has the word Peacock in italics next to his name, as if it was his occupation. Any ideas
Thanks Lynne

If he was a relative, Liverpool Mercury, 1884, will be of interest.

Thanks both. How do I look at that press cutting? I have got the lancashire library card, but can't remember how to use it

He was a relative. Married a distant cousin, because that is what I am looking at now to try to link with my DNA links.
Thank you so much. That explains why some of his children married publicans and eventually took over the liscence in Litherland road Bootle.
Hope it survives the shut down
Forgot to mention this is a branch of the Pendleton family called Macgillivray

So sad. I wonder what he died of. She was pregnant at the time and had a pub to keep up and working. Any idea which pub might have been in Litherland road, bootle?

Lynne,
Presently it's called The Laburnum, not sure when it acquired that name.
Previously, 1880s, when Charles Eaton applied for a licence, it was to sell beer, etc, from his house.

In 1891 the family lived at Laburnum ?? He was a licensed Victualler then, I cannot read the second word. The head was Charles Eaton aged 26. That may be why it was called the Laburnum.

That will be the pub then . You should be a detective. I love the puzzle solving in family history.

They've changed the search facility, nowhere near as easy.

I will give it a go, but working from home today. I don't think this is classed as my work.
