Booker Avenue Nursing Home

Hi Guys,

I am trying to identify which property on Booker Avenue was a former nursing home in the 1930's and 40's. It was, amongst others, the birthplace of the late Liverpool actor, Derek Nimmo.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Frank

Hi Frank
Was it a maternity home by the time Derek was born there please?
Dec qtr 1930.
I don't have Directories for this time frame for Booker Ave.

Thanks
Tina

Are you thinking of the house, Springcroft, at the corner of Aigburth Hall Ave and South Sudley Rd? That was a 'home' of various kinds until demolished.
I think the Monsarrat family lived there once.

Hi Tina and D,

Yes, I think that it did operate as a maternity home as my partner,Gil, was born there on June 4th 1949. However, she doesn't know , for obvious freasons, which property it was.

Thanks for your help,
Frank

Hi all,

Can't say that I've any great interest in genealogy but can provide definite confirmation that the nursing home in question was at 39 Booker Avenue i.e. where Derek Nimmo (and I in August 1949) were born. Curiously, the attending midwife was Nurse Snowball and under the supervision of Doctor Smellie ; I believe Derek mentioned Nurse Snowball in the course of one of his radio shows. Now. assumedly, 39 is a private residence.

Hope this helps.

Roger
