Hi everyone,

Can anyone make out the name of this church please? It is the baptism record of Luke Patrick Lynam at St Mary Highfield Street 1901, He married Catherine Barry in 1938 (oct-Dec Q) Liverpool.

I have all the information of the marriage but not the name of the church, I think it says ? ? Silvester L,pool.

Thanks

Thanks Mary,

My eyes were going square looking at it, it has been a toughie, I will check St Sylvesters.

It isn't on lancs BMD, and I think the RC churches are named on there after a certain date but not sure.

Cheers

'Churches of Liverpool' by David lewis has St Sylvester's, Silvester Street on p. 114, but no picture. Built 1889, it is off Commercial Road, Vauxhall area.

Thanks Daggers,

The family were in Vauxhall Road in 1901 little Luke P was less than a month old.

His parents were John Lynam and Bridget Agnes Wynne, they married in Our Lady of Reconciliation in 1894.

I also have his brother Thomas J Lynam baptism (1897) St Mary Highfield, his marriage details are also on his baptism record but no church is named, maybe he married at St Mary's I will have to check that out, but I know he married in 1919 to Mary H Williams.

:)

Thanks for the replies folks, much appreciated.

I checked out the church records for St Sylvester for the marriage in 1938, sadly it wasn't there! I found the other marriage though in 1919 that was at All Souls, I even checked their records for 1938, no luck there either, I checked quite a few others but without success.

I am beginning to think it could be St Sebastian's Lockerby Road, but no records at LRO for this church, I will have to phone the church and see where the records are.

Thanks for trying.

Hi Jan

What was the name of the priest :?: I thought the Rylance name may be it, so googled and got this link

http://www.plantata.org.uk/papers/obits ... ance_t.htm

this chap was at St Anne's (Richmond) Liverpool,1917 -1920, obviously C/E, but just a thought that if you know name of preist you may find the church.

Hi Simone,

Thanks for that.

On the 1901 baptism for Luke Patrick Lynam at St Mary's Highfield St the priest was Alfred Joseph McEvoy (I found him on the 1901 census in Highfield Street). There was another signiture as you mentioned, that was J R Ryland OSB. I checked the 1938 directory and Rev J Romuald Rylance was at St Mary's Highfield Street.

It was a catholic church wedding, I am trying to find the info out for someone else, so I don't really know where to look, the person I am helping is in USA, he is in contact with the daughter of Luke so he is going to ask if she knows where her parents married.

Cheers

Simone
You say " St Anne's (Richmond) Liverpool,1917 -1920, obviously C/E,", but the previous post did not say that, only "St. Anne, Liverpool".
I think that must mean St Anne, Overbury Street, RC.

Silvestri is latin for Sylvestor, it is possible that the priest may have not recorded the marriage in the register. There have been cases of this happening.

Why not purchase the marriage certificate? It could be easier in the long run.

I have now got the name of this church via the marriage cert, it was St Sylvesters.

I looked at the entries for St Sylvesters on microfilm, but that marriage wasn't there!! I will have to check that again or get new glasses!!

Thanks Mary,

Yes that is the one, I don't know how I missed that when I was looking, I should have gone to Specsavers lol.

I had an e-mail from the person who I had been looking for the marriage for, and even though I ordered it a few weeks ago, still not recieved it from GRO, but the person already had the marriage cert, they had forgotten they had ordered it some time ago!

Oh well, mystery solved now, and thanks again Mary.

Cheers
