I was very honoured last night to give a presentation to St Peter's, Bryn Fellowship group on how to research the Memorial in the church and compile a biography of each individual soldier who sacrificed their life's in both World Wars. For anyone who has Wigan Soldier Ancestors two volunteers have copied all articles from the Wigan Observer and Examiner and compiled them in files and also indexed them for WW1 and WW2. What would have taken me weeks or months looking for articles for these men only took a hour.
I was also very moved by a individual memorial to Lance-Corporal David Norman Worswick 2nd Grenadier Guards Killed in action 15th September 1916 on the Somme Battlefield and it was the original marker that marked his resting place were he fell and it reads. "In loving memory of LCp David Norman Worswick, 2nd Batt, Grenadier Guards who fell in action on the Somme Battlefield between ? 15th September 1916 The above cross marked his grave were he fell"
Across the middle of the cross is wrote "A British Soldier" I am going to go back to the church and get a better copy of the Cross to see what else is on it.

Re: St. Peter's Bryn War Memorial
Thought I'd share this here regarding the group researching the Memorial.
I have just received a lovely letter from Mr. B. Gerrard of St. Peter's, Bryn who I gave a presentation to this year on how to research a War Memorial the letter states "Hi Kathy, just a few lines to let you know how we at St. Peter's, Bryn are getting on with our war memorial. We have completed all 25 of our 1st World War names and addresses, all their known graves with photos and a member of the congregation out in France looking for others and some WW2 ones.
We did a war memorial display on the 9th to the 16th in the Church lounge and the school children from St. Peter School came to visit and hopefully do some community project.
We would all like to thank you for your inspiration and encouragement.
Thanks again
B. Gerrard
This is what it's all about, the local Communities getting involved and the children from the local School.
