Recollections of old Liverpool

This is a fascinating book by "A Nonagenarian", published in 1863, which paints a picture of Liverpool in the 1770s and 1780s. It is downloadable free of charge in a variety of formats (Kindle and iPad), and you can also download in HTML to read via your browser.

Surnames mentioned include Elkington, Blackburne, Roscoe, Richmond (a doctor), Brownlow (had the hill named after him), GA Stephens (an actor), Gibson and Howard — and that is in the first two chapters.

There's also a mention of Miss Harvey and Miss Brent.

I think this has been mentioned before and commented that it shows a wonderful example of life in it's time. Noticed the mention of the name Roscoe too, wonder if it links with the "wandering headstone" that Katie has written about.

Time for a download.
