Guernsey BMD's

Can anyone tell me where I can find records of someone married or born on Guernsey? I have John Mullett born 1830 registered as a lodger in the 1851 Guernsey census. I can't find a record of his marriage to Mary Ann McGuinn nor can I find his son, John's, birth registration although he is on quite a few censuses as being born on Guernsey.
Any suggestions welcome
Thanks in advance
Barbara

Not sure how easy it is to get hold of these, but the National Archives have some tips about

Hi Barbara,
In which census do the parents John and Mary Ann and son John, first appear?
Taking a flyer, since the 1851 census says John the coachman is from Buckland Newton in Dorset... is this him and his family in 1871?
Address: Coburg Yard, St John, Southampton, Hampshire.
RG10 / Piece:1194 / Folio:21 / Page:36
In the absence of a CI birth, I am wondering if the Guernsey reference is an error by the family because, if the family I found in 1871 in Hampshire is the right one, the next oldest child was born in Hampshire in 1856.
Name: MULLETT, George
Registration District: Southampton, Hampshire.
Year/qtr of Registration: 1856 / Apr-May-Jun
Volume No: 2C; Page No: 38
There are 2 JM births in Hampshire, both on an 'island'....
MULLETT, John William - Hampshire, Portsea Island - 1853.
MULLETT, John Sharing - Hampshire, Isle of Wight - 1854.

Hi DS,Mary and Tina
Thank you very much for the interest and info.
DS - I have John on censuses from 1871 to 1901 as born in Guernsey( although at one point it's mistranscribed as Germany!) I suspect his father was working in Guernsey and met Mary, his mother there.
Mary - I looked at your link but will have to investigate further as no records are available except via a library.
Tina - well spotted that woman! I never thought of Gretna Green. I'll look again at the records.
PS I have to apologise for confusing the wives of John senior and junior. They both married Mary Anns but junior married Mary Ann Shillabeer and his father married Mary Ann McGuinn. I haven't quite got my head around the Mulletts yet.
PPS Mary Ann S and all her family are mistranscribed as Shittabeer on one census......
Thanks for cracking another conundrum

Hi Barbara,
Thanks to Tina I have now found the family in 1861 in FMP. Didn't spot them before because surname was Mallett and John senior was a dock labourer from Northamptonshire not Dorset! His father-in-law [transcribed as step-father] is John Ginn! Young John was born in Gravesend [Germany would have been easier to understand!]. Total of 6 errors and 6 corrections sent in.
Now John senior is a dock labourer not a coachman, maybe he was sacked for taking the coach and Mary McGinn up to Gretna Green when she got pregnant with young John?

Some of our stories are better than a novel, we could write a book with all our ancestor's goings on.

Tina - can't find the Gretna marriage, it's probably me.

Mary, that is so true about writing a book.
The publisher would probably reject it as being far fetched!!
Just joshing Barbara about Gretna
Great corrections D.S to Anx. Tks E.O for info.

Where's Mary in 1851?

Logically she should be in Guernsey but I can't find her. Then logic has never had much to do with genealogy! She appears in another tree on Ancestry but only on the 1861. Same thing with her father. I've tried various spellings of the name but no luck.

Just thought I'd update everyone who has taken an interest. I tried a message on GR and SKP has found John's marriage. As I suspected he married Mary Ann McGinn in 1852 on Guernsey. However Mary died in 1883 and John remarried Elizabeth Hawell on the Isle of Wight in 1889. He died there in 1907.
He certainly liked his islands!
Cheers

Hi Barbara,
Thanks for the update and good news. Progress!
I was about to post that in 1881 I had found 2 John Mullets born Guernsey around 1853..
One bn 1852 is at RG11 / 1209 / 10 / 13 and the other bn 1854 is at RG11 / 1223 / 37 11.
But I suspect you are already aware of this?
