Does this apply to census abstracts as well? I think I've found my great grandmother's family, the Duffys, on the 1841/51 Irish census abstracts. Next to her name is written 'married BROWN' which is my great grandfather's surname. I'll be over the moon if this is so.

Re: arranged Roman Catholic marriages
Hi Barbara,
I think you have a better than 50/50 chance to get even more excited!
There's an interesting piece about those 'unusual' census abstracts here:
http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/t ... 1005611550
This is from the site... And there's more....
RESOURCE: Your genealogy library may have this book by J. Masterson, "Ireland 1841-51 Census Abstracts." There are transcriptions for portions of Cos. Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Mayo, Monaghan and Roscommon, at least. As I recall only entries from the Republic of Ireland are included. It has been a couple years since I saw it at the library so don't recall all the particulars. I have a couple photocopied pages. There is information on other counties as it gives the county of birth. As well, it it names recently deceased members of the family, what they died of, names and location of those who have immigrated. Included is information on occupations, schools the children are attending, names servants and others living in the household. Interesting reading. I believe that the National Archives, Dublin, IR, also has this information, as well as your local LDS FHC on microfilm.

The Census Abstracts are a different source of information to the RC parish records. Ancestry appear to have these Census Abstracts as part of their Irish collection:-
