.... Maker Engineer. Is it 'pattern'?

I would say pattern, just spelled incorrectly by the enumerator, nothing new there haha!

I have come across motormen who are bus drivers, tram-drivers or electric train drivers.

And about platen maker.... before copiers and scanners came into existence using platens [the glass panel you put the item to be copied on], there were many other types and uses for platens in engineering. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platen
