I'm having trouble finding the marriage of
Agnes Bowie b Paisley Scotland 1887 to George S Griffiths b 1886 Marple Cheshire.It would be between 1911 & 1939.
George was a marine engineer,he and Agnes lived for many years in Aruba in Dutch Indies.
All help appreciated. Sid Fowler

PS Any suggestions as to how I could access records of their stay in Aruba ?

Hi Sid,
From Wiki...
Aruba is one of the four constituent countries that form the Kingdom of the Netherlands, along with the Netherlands, CuraƧao and Sint Maarten. The citizens of these countries all share a single nationality: Dutch. Aruba has no administrative subdivisions, but, for census purposes, is divided into eight regions. Its capital is Oranjestad.

I suggest a letter/email to the Dutch Embassy in London asking about record keeping on the island at that time. Or have a look here: http://www.steustatiushistory.org/

Evening, know this thread has been quiet for quite a while but just wonder if anybody had any info about George S Griffiths? Any info on his career in Aruba or War service would be great if any family stories or even pictures remain!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Our original poster is still a member of the Forum and a Society member, so I hope they are notified that you have replied and come along and join in your research.

Meanwhile I look forward to seeing if anybody has any suggestions for searching in that area, which is rather out of my knowledge.

Brilliant,
Thanks for that. Apart from the travel lists, any other sources I could investigate regarding who he was working for in Aruba? Seems like a small place so possible he shows up?

Quite incredible the amount of info that was around about these chaps. I have recently purchased his medals for the Great War, where unsurprisingly he served as an Engineer Sub-Lieutenant near to the end of the war.
